How To Stay On Course In Your Decisions

One of the first showjumping shows I went to was at an equestrian centre that I rode at. All pupils who wanted to enter, could choose the horse they wanted to ride. But it was first come, first served, so to speak. With each horse not expected to have several riders.
This made sense. As expected though, some horses were more popular than others. And the horse I wanted to ride, got snapped up. So I had to ride another horse, who I was familiar with. But not a great jumper.
What with worrying about warming the horse up. From memory it was a bit chaotic, so many horses and people! I almost forgot to walk the course. How was I going to get around?
I watched a couple of horses go, to get an idea of the course. But it was a lot to take in. With the showjumping class being in an indoor arena. It meant everything seemed so cramped. With fences everywhere, so many decisions on where to go!
The last piece of advice before I went into the ring, was get in a rhythm. Sounds simple! I did try. But my horse refused three times, so elimination. The next class was a bit later, so I had a chance to walk the course first. But again, it was all a bit haphazard. We did finish the course this time, but it felt disorganised and wasn't a great show.
Definitely an experience in how not to prepare and complete a showjumping show. Or was it just because I was riding one of the horses that was more interested in being out in the field with her friends? Being a teenager at the time, and not fully aware of mindset preparation. In hindsight, I hadn't got my mindset straight!
This show memory reminds me of how it's the same in business. Or managing a business (or a team). Do you know where you are going? Do you know what you need to do to prepare? Or are you winging it? Taking shortcuts, knowing roughly what you need to do. But not in the right mindset to think clear. And to take the right course?
To help my coaching clients i've devised the T.A.R.A. programme.
Yes named after my dear horse Tara.
So what is this?
T = Targeted. Helping you to take action targeted to helping your business.
A = Aspiring. Helping you to aspire to o the life and business you want.
R = Realistic. Helping you to take action that is realistic in achieving your goals.
A = Achieve. Helping you to achieve success in your equestrian or canine business.
You can use this framework to keep you on course. And not give yourself an "elimination", through not having a clear mindset. And clear plan of where you need to go?
