LinkedIn Newsletter is an interesting feature of LinkedIn, wherein LinkedIn users can share their?ideas, thoughts, work, insights, experiences, domain expertise, thought leadership, stories, or How-to articles daily, weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly with their subscribers for free.
Creating a LinkedIn newsletter can be a great way to share valuable content with your professional network and establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry.
Key Considerations for a Successful LinkedIn Newsletter
Setting up the actual newsletter is the quick and easy part. However, before you reach that stage, careful consideration should be taken to ensure you create something valuable. Here are some critical steps to help you set up your newsletter for success:
Launching my LinkedIn newsletter
I started my newsletter on 7th May of 2023. My mini-strategy for this content program for a LinkedIn newsletter was very simple:
Frequency: Bi-Weekly
By offering a bi-weekly newsletter, I aim to deliver valuable content directly to your inbox, helping you stay informed and inspired in your professional journey.
Additionally, I see the newsletter as a way to foster a sense of community and dialogue among us.
Timing: Mornings
In my experience, the best time to send a LinkedIn newsletter is early in the morning. The later in the day, the less engagement my articles get. So I try to get it out by 8am-9am when possible.
Topics: “Level up your marketing and branding insights”
This is the similar as the rest of my content, so the repurposing is easy.
Newsletter name: The Marketing Insider
I deliberately gave it a very simple, specific name. I wanted anyone who sees it in their stream to know what it’s about. I avoided clever, branded names, opting for simple and specific.
Immediately after sending the first edition, I had a few hundred subscribers. That grew to 6000 today within the 10 months.
Here’s how to start a LinkedIn Newsletter:
1. Turn “Creator” mode ON.
Go to your LinkedIn profile, scroll down to “Resources,” and find where it says “Creator Mode: OFF.” Click to change it so it says, “Creator Mode: ON.”
2. Back in your “newsfeed,” click on “write article.”
3. Create a newsletter.
When it takes you to the article editor, hit the “Create a newsletter” button. It will lead you through choosing a title, description, etc.
And that’s it! Write your first issue and hit “Publish.”
Another benefit of doing this on LinkedIn: All your connections will instantly be invited to subscribe.
How to publish your first LinkedIn newsletter
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you create a LinkedIn newsletter:
领英推荐
Go to your LinkedIn homepage.
1. Decide: Personal page newsletter or company page newsletter?
Consider using a personal page for optimal results, as its human touch tends to drive higher engagement.
Probably, a personal page newsletter is the best fit for small businesses. The company page newsletter is best for enterprise.
But you’ll need at least 150 followers first.
2. Choose a highly descriptive name, even if it may initially seem uninteresting
Maybe the most important tip in this article. I recommend naming your newsletter something that has obvious relevance and value. You only get 30 characters. Don’t get fancy. Don’t brand it. Just call it what it is.
Marketers often enjoy crafting catchy names, yet readers prioritize utility over creativity. When I named my newsletter "The Marketing Insider," I prioritized clarity over excitement.
3. Write your newsletter description
Again, be very specific. Tell the reader exactly why they should click and subscribe. You can write a description of up to 120 characters.
4. Set your frequency
You have four options: daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
As I mentioned above, my newsletter is bi-weekly.
Setup is done! You’re ready to publish.
5. Make the first edition good
That first edition is very important. It’s special because when you hit publish on your first newsletter, all of your connections and followers will get an invitation. This is the big promotion push.
So go big on quality for your first edition. Make it your best.
6. Enhance with Engaging Preheader Text
The content at the beginning of your newsletter article serves as the preheader text in your subscribers' inboxes. This snippet significantly impacts open and click-through rates. Thus, it's worthwhile to craft a compelling first line to capture readers' attention.
7. Promotion of the LinkedIn Newsletter
While LinkedIn aids in promoting your article via email, your assistance can amplify its reach. Sharing the article with select colleagues initiates early engagement, prompting the LinkedIn algorithm to prioritize its visibility.
Access the post link by clicking the three dots menu and share it on internal message boards, your preferred LinkedIn groups, or (if it's a personal newsletter) directly on your company page. Additionally, extend its reach by sharing it across other social media platforms—simply grab the post or article link.
Are you in? Ready?
Great. But here’s one last tip…
LinkedIn newsletters are faster, but it’s still a marathon
You're publishing in a space where engagement is already high.
Your content becomes native to a vast networking platform.
You'll achieve broader reach with relatively little extra effort.
The exciting part? Any activity on LinkedIn indirectly boosts your newsletter, fueling brand visibility. It's a virtuous cycle of growth.
Conclusion
LinkedIn newsletters are a powerful tool for professionals (or companies) to build their brand, engage with their audience, and establish themselves as thought leaders in their industry. However, creating a successful LinkedIn newsletter requires time, effort, and strategy. To create an outstanding newsletter define your target audience, establish clear goals, develop a content strategy, and focus on quality content.
By adhering to these guidelines and consistently delivering valuable and enlightening content, you can harness the platform to realize your personal and professional aspirations.
