How to start optimising your LinkedIn Profile

How to start optimising your LinkedIn Profile

Most people have a LinkedIn profile, but many don’t realise the potential it has for helping them further their career or increasing the visibility of their business. By optimising your LinkedIn profile, you can make sure that you’re putting your best foot forward and showing potential employers or clients what you have to offer.

Before we start, I just wanted to share with you a little bit about why we use LinkedIn. LinkedIn is obviously a huge network globally and within the actual platform.?A lot of businesses are using LinkedIn from a networking, lead generation, brand awareness and content sharing perspective so that they can stay front of mind with their clients and potentially attract new clients into their business. The reason we use LinkedIn for lead generation is because it actually gets results.

Here are a couple of tips on how you can optimise your profile so that you can make yourself stand out on search in general.

If your profile is optimised properly, not only can people find you within LinkedIn, but they can also find you through general Google searches. Your profile is an opportunity for you to leverage Google to get people to either your LinkedIn profile or your business website.

Alt-Text on Images

At the top of your profile there is an area where you can load in your profile image and a profile banner. These two areas are a good start with SEO as you can alt-text both images.

Alt-text is text that is used to describe an image. It is important to use alt-text on your images so that people can understand what they are seeing. This is especially important for people with disabilities who use screen readers to access LinkedIn.

So think of alt-text like the computer reading to the visually impaired. So if an image is about a social banner for a marketing services agency in Sydney, as an example, we would name this image,?social-media-banner-marketing- services-agency-sydney, and then the readers for SEO can actually read that as another SEO element.

The same thing applies with your profile image, you could name it something like the following, kaylene-grieve-marketing- services-agency. (This is what I did for mine)

So naming your images correctly with alt-text, can really enhance your visibility online from a search perspective.

LinkedIn Headline

Directly under the profile image is the headline. So this area is a great opportunity for you to leverage keywords.

Your headline is one of the first things that people will see when they visit your profile, so it’s important to make it catchy and SEO-friendly. Use keywords that describe what you do and what you’re looking for. For example, if you’re a web developer, you might use the following headline: “Web Developer with 10 Years’ experience” (Plus other keywords) or for business purposes you might use something like the following is you are an electrical manufacture in Sydney – “Electrical Manufacturer Sydney.” Here is an example of what I have done on mine. https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/salesseoandsocialmedia/

So whether you’re on LinkedIn for recruitment purposes, or you’re there for promoting the business, you can add keywords into the headline area that reflect what you are trying to achieve.

That’s just the first step in optimising your profile. In the coming weeks we will be releasing more?articles?on the other ways you can optimise your profile.
