How to Start (and Keep) Good Habits?

Imagine it’s late and you have had a long day. You were planning to exercise, make yourself a healthy meal, then spend some time meditating or praying. Instead, you order some pizza and plank yourself in front of the TV (average TV watching in the UK = 4 hrs a day!).
Without realizing it, you just reinforced a habit. Research suggests we all have “keystone habits,” acquired patterns of behaviour that form the basis of our daily routines. Change those, and you can change your life.
Here are some ways to Develop Healthy Habits:
- Take time to reflect on “who” you are. You have the ability to become more like the person you were created to be. You just need time to reflect on yourself.
- Identify the “why” behind your behaviour. Do you eat fast food because you like the taste? Or because you’re tired or bored? Once you know why you behave the way you do, it’s easier to replace unhealthy habits with better ones. Most never do and the results are visible around! The majority of people never take time to think about their ‘why’. Do you?
- Focus on one “key” habit. Consistently doing one thing well will yield results over time and make it easier to master other habits later. For example, many years ago I have taken the decision to do more physical activities, and now it became a habit, and it is part of my life. I visit the gym at least 3 or 4 x a week, walk and run, and eat healthy.
- When you stumble, “fall forward”, “learn” from your mistakes and keep going. It’s ok to fail. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Be grateful you can still correct your mistake and move on. We all make mistakes, believe me! I am not an exception, I have made mistakes in multiple areas of my life, for example in my property business, and a few years ago I decided to buy 2 properties in a bad area instead of one in an excellent area. The results was disastrous and I lost tens of thousands of pounds in the UK. Life is full of challenges.
Make your own list of habits you would like to change. It only takes a moment to start a healthy habit. Pick a Plan, and pray to God so you can use that choice to begin transforming your daily routines.
