?? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ????????: we have not one, but two infographics from Elements and an Axios article.

?? ????????'?? ?????????? ?????????????? ??????????: energy efficiency and jobs, smart mobility and worn-out batteries, and the transition to net-zero carbon future and the costs of batteries.

C'est parti...

1. Energy efficiency

Moving to clean energy could create 10.3m net new jobs by 2030...?

The numbers: this infographic from Elements shows which sectors are poised to benefit from a transition to cleaner energy sources:

Job losses: expected in fossil fuels industries as demand decreases

New jobs: will appear to modernize infrastructures to use the new energy sources and to improve energy efficiency.

Make it personal: over the coming years, the job landscape in energy is shifting, ans so are the investment opportunities… stay plugged-in

Death by a thousand of worn-out batteries?

The charge to keep EV batteries out of the trash - Source Axios

What is at stake: the push for e-mobility is creating some issues of it own… what should we do of worn-out batteries?

When will this hit us: the problem could start to materialise in a couple of years, when the first model of EV's come to end-of-life.

Who is taking action: a startup is trying to build a close-loop supply chain for electric vehicles

  1. Building a network of dealers and dismantlers to collect old batteries
  2. Harvesting metals, and other valuable elements, and
  3. Recycling the materials and supplying them to electric vehicles makers to produce new ones.

Make it personal: this would be the most sustainable way to turn old batteries into valuable assets and support the development of EV manufacturing.

What drives the cost of batteries?

By the numbers: 40% of the costs come from the metals in the cathode primarily, and in the other parts of the battery cells, according to data from BloombergNEF.

What metals: lithium and other metals like nickel, cobalt or manganese, depending on the technology in use.

Costs are going up: although the average battery costs have decreased sharply over the past 10 years, the spur of demand for electric vehicles had led prices for "battery metals" to increase significantly recently.

Make it personal: batteries are playing a critical role in supporting the transition to a net-zero carbon future, not just for cars, but for all means of motorised transportation.

Smart mobility: great topic: and really interesting about the fact what will happen at the end-of-lifetime of the first generations EV. Synthetic fuels / other sources might be another solution Lionel. Good points - enjoyed reading!
