How to Start a Homeschooling Project?

Homeschooling is like creating a special place at home where children can learn using their energy and creativity. It might be a library, a garden, or just their rooms.

First, we need to agree that school alone isn't enough for learning. To put it simply, when we talk about teaching and learning, we're talking about more than just the school. The school is one part, but it's not the most important part.

The family – whether you're a mom or a dad – plays a big role in teaching and learning. So, creating a homeschool is a good idea, in my opinion. It helps decide what your child's future and life will be like.

The best approach to start a homeschooling project!

The goal of homeschooling is to organize your child's daily life at home with a learning plan.

Through this plan, your child learns new things that help in his or her life, shape his or her personality, make him or her curious, and develop different skills.

To make homeschooling work well, it should fit with your child's age, personality, and what he or she likes. So, it's important to understand your child's personality by talking and listening to him or her.

Start by collecting information that will help shape the homeschooling plan. It's important to know that this plan doesn't have to be the same as what the school does (like the curriculum).

I think what your child learns at school should stay there, during homeschooling, your child should feel in a different and special space, free from the stress of mandatory learning, and be able to explore his or her interests.

However, it's important to connect these two worlds. You can share your homeschooling plan with teachers so they can talk to your child about it in school.

You can also share it with other families, creating a community around your homeschooling project. But this comes later (...) In the beginning, focus on the project between you and your child.

Let's say you find out your child loves drawing and music, he or she likes using oil paints and playing the guitar. The next step is to get the right space and tools. This could include art supplies, a guitar, books about music and art, some art pieces, and maybe some music compositions. The goal is for these things to be full of knowledge and need some effort. The tools should also have an educational aspect, so your child encounters different levels of learning.

After this, set up the space to fit your child's personality and the design of your home. You can choose his or her room or another space in the house.

Once that's done, you still need a schedule - weekly, monthly, and yearly. At this point, you might need help from experts in drawing and music.

If you like learning on your own, you can take some time to learn the basics and include them in your child's plan. This might take a few months.

When you see your child getting good at what he or she loves, you can change the plan to be more guided, with more challenging activities. This helps him or her to learn in his or her way and share their learning results with you.

Let's summarize everything!

The idea is pretty simple, right? I talked about drawing and music, but maybe you'll find out your child likes learning other things. The way to do it is the same and can be broken down like this:

  1. Start by talking and listening: begin by talking and listening to your child.
  2. Research and get ready: look up information and get ready for your project.
  3. Get educational tools: get the tools you need for learning.
  4. Get the space ready: set up the space for the things you want to do.
  5. Plan the program and how you'll teach: plan and decide how you'll teach your child at each step.

And that's it! It might sound a bit like theory, but the point of this article is to share some ideas that can give your child more energy for learning, especially at home and when school is busy with things that might not interest your child.

Last words!

In my opinion, homeschooling is really important, even though parents today are busy with work and everyone is trying to find another place for their kids to spend time. The home might be empty throughout the day, but we need to agree that kids are a big responsibility.

If you decide to have children, you need to understand that this decision means nothing is more important in your life than your kids. Let's be clear; neither schools nor private places that take care of kids when parents are working, or any other companies doing such things, none of them can teach your child better than you (...)
