I have seen many Cameroonians (including Africans from other nations) in the diaspora come back home, invest a lot of money in setting up a business and it struggles.
I have seen a few who have come back and are able to set up successful businesses.
I have also seen intentional companies come into Cameroon and they end up struggling or even quitting the market.
I have also seen a few who have been able to make it work.
However those who failed and are still failing are more than those who have succeeded.
It takes more than money to make it in the Cameroonian marketplace. Talk to people who are able to produce results and you will get my point.
Hear this,
Would be very difficult for global businesses to establish roots in a local market without local culture considerations. Entering international markets without adequate country relevant planning with a local perspective often results in sub-optimal results. “Think Global, Act Local.”
Because you studied in America or you are CEO of an international business doesn't mean you will make it in the Cameroon market. You need local knowledge to add to your American "superior knowledge" as most will claim.
I have had situations where people are coming to me after they are frustrated. They have already invested millions in the wrong directions and are now facing the challenge of making it work.
Watch this video I did on how to start a business in Cameroon while living out of the country.
