Preparing Your Resume

As you prepare your resume, keep in mind that your goal is to get past the hiring manager, recruiter, or tracking systems and get an interview for the position. Here are some tips to help you craft your best resume.

  1. Customize your resumes: Make sure your resume is tailored to the specific job you are applying for. Highlight skills and experience that are relevant to the position.
  2. Be concise: Use clear language and concise sentences to make sure your resume is easy to read and understand.
  3. Make powerful statements: Use action verbs, not passive ones. Action verbs will make your resume sound stronger and more powerful compared to passive verbs.
  4. Format your resume correctly: Include your most recent experience first and then work backwards in chronological order. Don’t use mismatching fonts or too many colors.
  5. Insert relevant terms: Use keywords from the job description to make sure your resume is visible to employers.
  6. Hype yourself up: List relevant certifications, licenses, and continuing education courses you’ve taken. Include any awards or accomplishments that demonstrate your expertise in the healthcare field.
  7. Double-check your resume: Look for any typos or errors before sending it off. Don’t let grammatical errors, incorrect dates, or strange structuring prevent you from getting an interview.

Acing Your Interview

You’ve applied to multiple jobs, and you got an interview offer! What should you do now? Interviewing can be stressful and anxiety-inducing for a lot of people, especially if you haven’t had an interview in a while.

Preparing for an interview is vital to succeeding. Here are some things you should do to prepare for one:

  • Research the job and organization. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the job description, the organization’s mission and values, and any related news. This will help you get an understanding of the position and what the organization is looking for in a candidate.
  • Prepare for common interview questions. Research common interview questions and practice your answers. Think about what makes you a great fit for the job and make sure you can articulate it to the interviewer.
  • Prepare questions of your own. Have a few questions ready to ask the interviewer. This shows you are interested and engaged in the conversation.
  • Dress for success. Make sure you are dressed in a professional, clean, and appropriate outfit. It’s also important to bring a portfolio containing your resume, references, and any other relevant documents.
