HOW TO STAND OUT IN YOUR JOB SEARCH

HOW TO STAND OUT IN YOUR JOB SEARCH

To stand out from the crowd may sound overwhelming. when some job postings yield over 200 candidates how to you even get through to the hiring manager? Seems anything but easy when you only collect rejection letters and get frustrated that no one is contacting you back. With a bit of strategy and some guidance, you can begin to stand out and get noticed.

Let’s discuss exactly what you need to know

Get their Attention

I mean it! Grab their attention, my friend. There are a few ways you can finally stand out. Tap into your network, see who can provide you a referral or a recommendation. This is your quickest way to get in the door. Think back to who you have previously worked with that maybe can refer you to their boss, or provide a written recommendation for you. Plus, companies have referral bonuses that they provide so it would be a win-win for everyone.

Follow relevant recruiters in industries you are interested in. Many recruiters are seeking top talent like yourself, but they post it directly to their platforms. Connect with them so you can be up to date with what is offered. Just make sure that you have optimized your LinkedIn profile, they will look!

Ask for recommendations. You don’t get what you don’t ask for, don’t be afraid to do it. What’s the worst someone is going to say? No? That’s okay you move on to the next person. You need to realize you don’t exactly need to have a strong relationship or any relationship to receive a recommendation at all. Simply message the individual and express that you are a job seeker wanting to obtain a new role and that you would truly appreciate a recommendation. For the individual to be more inclined to write you may prepare a non-biased recommendation that you have already written yourself for them to post. They will be more willing to post a recommendation that they don’t have to spend time and write themselves.

Optimize your Job Market Materials

Quantify your accomplishments, meaning provide measurable results in your resume. Numbers, percentages, how many people are impacted by your work, etc. This all gets noticed by the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) and ranks you higher so the hiring manager will notice your application. Give the hiring manager a picture of what you can do, so they know how you are an asset for the role or their team.
