How To Spot Financial Parasites Before It's Too Late

How To Spot Financial Parasites Before It's Too Late

"How can I tell if someone is lying to me about their money?"

I was asked the other day to comment on how to recognize the signs of having trouble trusting your romantic partner while planning a future together. Their relationship impacted their career and left them conflicted about their money choices.??

Did you know financial boundaries show up on the first date?

Did you know most people ignore the red flags until they are further along in their relationship and wonder what to do then?

It's the same in business and your career.

When you first meet a new boss, colleague, or referral partner, it may seem like an easy and happy arrangement.

But you may overlook those pesky red flags if you are so busy trying to please the other person that you believe they are more powerful or better than you.

When you ask simple questions, red flags about a lack of transparency and aggressive or even hostile communication are reasons to pause this relationship.

Let me be clear: Respecting the other party has nothing to do with seeing them as more powerful or better than you. It's about respecting yourself and seeing this other person as a meaningful connection.

Here is my advice:

Please don't treat your romantic relationships like business partnerships. They are just a mark or someone you can use to get something from.

This is where many professional and business relationships flame out because the other party is calculating their needs over yours.

It's crucial to have open and non-judgmental conversations about money. Remember that everyone's financial upbringing is unique, and understanding this can help you navigate financial trust issues in your relationship.

If you suspect your partner is not honest about their financial situation, it's okay to ask for transparency. A clear view of each other's money can help build trust and understanding in your relationship.

Please consider whether this is a long-term relationship if you are still awaiting your hoped-for response.

You may have crossed a bridge too far if you sneak or check their phone, look at their emails, or, worse, their bank statements without their permission.

Money doesn't have to be a power struggle.
