As AI-generated images flood our social media feeds, the line between what is real and fake really blurs fast.
Developing the skill to identify these AI-generated images is quite critical for all of us (and especially our kids) for maintaining a sense of media literacy in the digital age.
Spotting an AI generated "FAKE" image takes only moments but it can significantly impact the humanity's chances in the ongoing fight against disinformation.
In this article, I can show you how you can spot the most common give-aways!
Opening the image in a new tab for a closer look could be beneficial. Start by examining any textual elements. Currently, AI has difficulties with accurate spelling and character formation, occasionally inserting misleading watermarks. Also, inspect the contours of objects with delicate outlines or frames, such as chairs and light bulbs, for any distortions.
AI lacks the ability to apply logical reasoning to scenarios. Picture yourself within the setting.
Do any items or details seem out of place?
Is the arrangement of windows, doors, and various objects logical?
Maintaining consistent details is a challenge for AI. Look out for similar shapes or patterns, and examine their consistency in the image. Although it might initially be cumbersome and require significant effort, you will eventually develop an instinct for spotting such inconsistencies.
In our fast-paced world, scrutinizing every image we encounter isn't feasible. The key is for individuals to pause and consider the authenticity of an image before liking or sharing it. When in doubt, it's better to verify its legitimacy or refrain from spreading it.
That's one important step in stopping the spread of disinformation!
