How Spiritual practices help faith-driven entrepreneurs build discipline in their businesses for success.
One habit of successful people, across the board, is that they take ACTION on their plans.
This comes from being organized. Organizing includes planning as well as setting priorities and goals. But without ACTION, no plan will go anywhere.
Where do you start? As a faith-driven entrepreneur, you must begin with your relationship with God. Cultivating your vertical relationship is vital to success in the other parts of your life, especially your business.
I want to chat about how Spiritual practices help faith-driven entrepreneurs by going through the FIVE Ds.
Five Ds
Once you have these FIVE Ds in your faith life, you are ready to tackle anything that comes your way, live up to your potential, and find success.
Decision
The decision comes down to your commitment to Christ. Becoming a believer may have happened recently for you or many years ago. Either way, it was the beginning of growing in God.
The first Spiritual practices you were introduced to were prayer, bible reading/study, worship, and service. These four practices set the foundation for more intense practices like fasting, silence and solitude, journaling, and Sabbath.
How can you take ACTION on these Spiritual practices?
Let’s organize:
Plan. The time of day you will dedicate to prayer and Bible study. This is a daily practice. This time also incorporates your worship (thinking only about God).
Writing it in your planner is the best way to prioritize this ‘time of day.’ We make appointments for everything in our business life. This can be carried over to your faith life as well.
Deliberate
Deliberate or intentional growth is what I mean here. How can you do this? By finding your unique way to connect to God.
So often, though, we approach God as our families, church communities, or denomination standards taught us. There is no exploration of our unique design or room to find alternative ways to connect to God.
This can cause restlessness in your soul. You may feel that your Spiritual practices are insufficient and seem flat.
How can you take ACTION and be deliberate in finding your unique way to God?
Let’s organize:
Plan. Start by making a list of all the things you do now to ‘grow your faith.’ Then, list all the things you do that make you feel connected to God (that may be outside of your known experience).
Compare your lists. What overlaps? Start to do those things. Find creative ways to incorporate more of God into the daily actions you are already involved in. And, take away things that are distractions, keeping you away from deliberately spending more time thinking about God.
Discipline
Discipline is what we are going for here, not distraction by the other things that can crowd out the work of the Holy Spirit in you. This comes down to obedience. You are being obedient to the call of God on your life.
In Philippians 2:12, Paul urges the believers to “. . . Work hard to show the results of your salvation obeying God with deep reverence and fear.”
That should be our mindset, to please God first with everything we do. The only way to stay connected to God (disciplined) is to grow deep roots in Him and have Him change the way you think. To be able to see God’s moments in each of your moments.

How can you take ACTION to have more discipline in your life?
Let’s organize:
Plan. Create a routine that includes taking care of you physically and mentally. For example, getting up at the same time each day, going to bed earlier, eating well, exercising, and taking time to think through specific challenges.
Bring everything to God and talk with Him about it. Your best ideas will come from these conversations. Keep yourself aligned and cooperating with God, and your mind will be transformed.
Discernment
Discerning what is best is the direction I’m going here. As believers, we have good choices and options all around us. We rarely must choose between bad and good. Instead, it is more like, What is better? What is the best choice I can make that keeps me on the right path with God?
The key to discernment is intimacy with God because it comes from God. Some synonyms are- insight, awareness, and wisdom.
When you have your Spiritual practices in place, are intentionally growing, and have created a routine for your day that includes God moments, you are getting closer and more intimate with God.
How can you take ACTION to develop intimacy with God for more discernment?
Let’s organize:
Plan. Start to keep a chronological journal of everything in your life. Write it all out in a way that is natural for you. Everyone can journal. It’s just a matter of finding your way to do it.
There can be lists, questions, gratitude, requests, and even scripture. By having a journal structured this way, you can look back over previous days to see how God shaped you to surrender to His will, develop an idea, or make an important decision. God gives you discernment when you continue to bring everything to Him. ?
Discipleship
Discipleship is something we do and is something we share with others. Just before Christ left the earth, He gave specific instructions to His disciples. “. . . Go and make disciples of all the nations. . .” ?
For example, in Jesus’ day, a disciple meant that you were so devoted to your Master that you would have gotten the dust of the road all over you as you walked with Him because you followed so closely.?As a follower of Jesus, you are a disciple following Him closely.
Thus, making disciples is also part of our calling as believers. We can only do this if we are involved with others who need to know Jesus. Being bold in sharing our faith takes confidence and preparation.
How can you take ACTION to grow in your ability to disciple yourself and others?
Let’s organize:
Plan. Join a community that values connection, collaboration, and learning. A place where you can share ideas, grow intentional relationships, and practice sharing your faith with others.
God did not create us to be alone. He made us to be in a community. The Calling Clarity Community has what you need to grow in all areas of your life: personally, professionally, and spiritually.
Come to a the place to build the business God is calling you to build and find your significance and satisfaction in following His Calling. Knowing there are women, just like you, taking action on the PLANS God has for them.
I’ll leave you with these inspirational verses from Hebrews 6:9b-12. ?
“. . . We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation.?For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.?
Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.?Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.”
The FIVE Ds: Decision, Deliberate, Discipline, Discernment, and Discipleship, work together to create the work and life God wants for you. So, I invite you to join the Calling Clarity Community, so you have a place where you can grow your faith and fuel your business.
