How to SOLVE employee problems

How to SOLVE employee problems

As a manager, it can be easy to slip into problem solving mode when one of our employees comes to us with an issue.? The risk is that we start taking on their work thus overloading our own schedule - sound familiar?

Here is an easy way to help employees understand the issues they are facing and empower them to solve them. ?

Step One: Define the Core Issue

First things first—pinpoint the problem. Sounds simple, right? However, clarity is key. Encourage your employee to articulate the tangible problem at hand. This not only streamlines the focus but also hones their ability to identify and communicate core issues effectively.

Step Two: Explore Three Creative Solutions

Once the problem is on the table, it's time to brainstorm. Challenge your employee to generate three distinct solutions. This not only sparks creativity but also fosters lateral thinking. Keep in mind; not every solution needs to be an instant revelation. Allow time for contemplation, but ensure a follow-up within 24 hours to maintain momentum.

Step Three: Empower with Decision-Making

Here's where the magic happens. After presenting three potential solutions, empower your employee to make the decision. It's a pivotal step in fostering accountability and ownership. Your role shifts from problem-solver to a supportive guide, ensuring they have the resources and assistance needed to implement their chosen solution.

? The Ripple Effect: Building Problem-Solving Prodigies

Implementing the "One Three One Technique consistently cultivates a culture of self-sufficient problem-solvers. Over time, your employees will naturally adopt this approach, proactively presenting challenges alongside their proposed solutions. It's a win-win for efficiency and employee empowerment.
