How Solo Travel and Writing Retreats Fuel My Creativity as an Entrepreneur and Writer
As an entrepreneur and as someone pursuing a second masters degree (MSc Economics), life can often feel like a never-ending series of deadlines and demands. Balancing the challenges of stepping up a career while pursuing higher education leaves little room for personal time, let alone creative pursuits. But I’ve learned that taking breaks, stepping away from the hustle, and allowing myself to reset is not only necessary—it’s essential for my well-being and for nurturing my passion as a fiction writer.
The Power of Solo Travel
One of my favorite ways to find this balance is through solo travel. There’s something uniquely refreshing about being on your own in a new place, especially somewhere as peaceful as Landour. Tucked away in the hills, Landour offers the kind of solitude that invites introspection and creativity. Walking through its winding lanes or sitting quietly with a view of the mountains, I find the space to reconnect with myself and let ideas flow freely.
It’s in these moments of solitude that I often delve deeper into my passion project as a fiction writer. The change in scenery, the fresh air, and the calmness of being surrounded by nature all play a role in inspiring new ideas and unlocking creative energy. For me, places like Landour are more than just a getaway—they are creative sanctuaries where I can think clearly and dream big.
Writing Retreats: Unwinding and Learning
Another avenue that has greatly contributed to my creative growth is attending Writing Retreats. These retreats provide the perfect balance of relaxation and learning, helping me unwind while staying connected with my writing goals.

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of attending The Write Scene's Writing Retreats, curated by my wonderful writing mentor, Deeba Irfan. These retreats are a unique space for writers to step away from their daily routines and immerse themselves in their craft. Surrounded by like-minded individuals, I get to sharpen my skills, learn from experienced writers, and work on my fiction in a supportive environment.
What I love most about these retreats is that they are not just about writing. They’re about holistic growth—creatively, intellectually, and personally. They offer time to reflect, reboot, and return with fresh perspectives that are invaluable, whether for my fiction or my entrepreneurial work.
Why Breaks Matter
For entrepreneurs and anyone balancing multiple passions, it’s easy to get caught in the cycle of constant work. But what I’ve learned through solo travels and writing retreats is that stepping away is sometimes the best thing you can do for your productivity and creativity. These breaks are where I find inspiration and clarity. Whether it’s a quiet moment in Landour or a week spent writing with peers, these pauses help me recharge and refocus on what truly matters.
So, whether you're chasing business goals, academic ambitions, or creative dreams, remember to take a break. You might just find that your best ideas come when you step away for a while.
