Everyone is on a phone these days, which means many people don’t have attention anymore on what’s physically around them. They sit at dinner with a friend to look on Instagram to see what their other friends are eating. Remaining focused in a distracted world will help make you a top producer. The idea of focus is a discipline that can bring you huge success, but it requires you to be obsessed on some level, otherwise, you’ll allow distractions to sap your time away.
No matter what industry you think about, all the greats have the ability to focus and put away distractions. The average do a little here, a little there, never able to put their full attention on anything and therefore never become great at anything. Control your own attention through focus while others waste time being distracted by menial things that never get them closer to their goals.
These 5 things will suck your attention away from being productive and will move your focus away from accomplishing your dreams:
1) Smartphones
While very useful, too many are playing "Farmcrush" and "Candyville" on it. Your phone should make you money.
2) The Internet
You don’t need to check Facebook for the 12th time this hour, Google when Leonardo Dicaprio's birthday is to settle that argument once and for all, or watch YouTube videos with cats knocking things off tables.
3) Booze
It may feel good now, but it won’t feel good later. Put it down and start juicing so you have more energy for things that will make a positive difference in your life.
4) TV
Forget about the commercials, how much time are you wasting just browsing the channels? A whole nation is watching a show like "Ring of Thrones"—or "Game of the Lords" or whatever they call it, and not advancing their own empire.
5) Hanging with Friends
Look, friends are great, but you don’t need to hang every day. I know you've been best friends with Timmy since the 1st grade, but he will never buy anything from you.
No matter what your personal top distractions are that are holding you back from achieving your dreams, here are some tips to stay focused on those dreams:
- List all distractions: Create two columns on a sheet of paper. In column 1, list the things that won’t ever contribute to your production. In column 2 list the distractions and activities you must do. Now, avoid all activities in column 1. Seeing it on paper will help you be aware of these potential and meaningless distractions.
- Make priorities: Make a list of everything you must do and start with the most difficult thing. Get it out of the way. When I am making sales calls, I don’t make the easiest ones first. I make the most difficult ones first. I want to get those ones that challenge me the most out of the way or I want to conquer them. Either way, I win.
- Don’t take breaks: Don’t rest and don’t stop. Never do “just enough.†It’s not about building a small fire to keep warm. It’s about adding wood to your fire and making it so massive that you burn the place down. Stay focused on your fire and keep building it. Those who lose focus have stopped adding wood to their fire to do other things that don’t matter as much.
Focus on your dreams because you get what you focus on. Highly successful people dream. I’m not talking about sleeping. I’m talking about focusing on where you want to go in your life. I’m not asking you to do anything different today. You’ve already gotten in your life what you’ve focused on. What you are focusing on right now is what you’re getting.
If you want a different reality, you have to create it in your head first. What you think is what you do. Where your mind goes is where you go. You think it, then you take action towards it, then you create it. That’s how I create my reality.
Many years ago I went to southern California and as I gazed over the beach in La Jolla, I was so impressed by the place that I decided I wanted to live there. At the time, I couldn’t even rent there much less buy a house. Four years later I bought my beach-side home in La Jolla. I thought it, I took action towards it, and then I created it. My ability to focus on my dream over and over and over again created that house. It became reality.
It would never have happened if I let myself continually be distracted by other things.
Everything that happens to you... you create it. Consider how many things you’ve created—where you live, where you work, your physical condition. Think about it—you are the one that put the food in and did or didn’t exercise. You applied for the job. You have created everything in your life—your mate, your attitude, your kids.
For the formula of success to work in your life, you have to agree to the fact that you are the cause—the creator of everything that happens in your life. You create what you focus on. What you dream—what you think about—is what you get. Dream it and achieve it.
I want to help you focus—and achieve. I want you to hit your wildest goals and bring to fruition your dreams, the dreams that you may have been neglecting as you play Farmcrush and watch Ring of Thrones while drinking beer with Timmy your best friend since 1st grade.
My Business Builder Package is perfect for anyone looking to refocus back on what's really important. If you're not satisfied with your income; if you know your life could be so much more; if you are just getting tired of the status quo and all the distractions that waste your precious time away—then take advantage of this killer deal.
