How Social Media Can Re-Ignite A Brand With Brittani Warrick

Can tweets change an entire brand?

Brittani Warrick is influencing decisions for brands on the ground on all social platforms. She is part of a new generation of marketers, whose work leads to the kind of case studies that traditional marketers look towards to gain a fresh perspective.

Warrick is a creative digital marketer with a passion for all things entertainment who has worked with the legendary Dionne Warwick for over a decade. Her work has landed her features on Saturday Night Live, Harper's Bazaar, People, E! News, and more. She has worked with many other recording artists to develop innovative and engaging campaigns. Warrick is currently a Digital Marketer at Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's company Westbrook Media.

Goldie Chan: How did you get started thinking about social media as a career?

Brittani Warrick: As a kid, I have always loved commercials, ads, movie trailers, things like that. That hasn’t changed, but it has definitely evolved over the years. I began adding to that list. During the time of MySpace, I became fascinated with building social profiles and making them look dynamic, unlike the others. I was also very intrigued by the emergence of recording artists who took to MySpace to self-market their projects. One of those projects that I was most fascinated by was Drake’s mixtape. MySpace really fed my curiosity about entertainment and brand, and what could come from a project with a team brave enough to try new things. I began wondering what kind of career I could build around all of these things.?

Chan: What has been your favorite campaign or project that you’ve worked on?

Warrick: I don’t know if it would be considered a campaign, but I created and produced a silly social media series with Dionne Warwick called “Nobody Asked for This”. It is literally a series of videos that nobody asked for. I wasn’t sure how we would do, but I was extremely excited and surprised to see that the first episode went viral! I am also extremely proud of making it to Saturday Night Live. I respect the writers and cast tremendously, and it feels nice to be seen for my work on such a large platform. Shout out to Ego Nwodim and Punkie Johnson!

Chan: Any last branding advice for the new year?

Warrick: Authenticity is your superpower! Spending hours, weeks, months, building something that you think people want to engage with will never compare to what you can offer the world if you stick to your most authentic voice. Your audience can tell when you are leaning into something severely inorganic. And even though it is scary, you will find your loyal audience when you’re fully owning what feels authentic to you. (This advice is also great for building strong friendships)
