How Snapchat is Trying to Democratize Stories

People have been realizing walled garden apps aren't actually so fun; personal sharing on Facebook and other old-school networks is way down.
Snapchat realized this in its new redesign too.
Snapchat will now let you share some Stories outside the app.
Snapchat has been struggling (like it's the new Twitter) since Instagram stole stories and implemented them in an easier to use way.
And the Word Was Snap
But what if we could live in a world where our stories could be shared across platforms with links. What if Snapchat was actually useful for brands and content creators?
Starting Wednesday January 24th, users can share Stories on other platforms. These will include arch nemesis Facebook and even snarky Twitter.
The redesign also explores sharing links to content and via Email or Webpages.
In an era where Facebook became a walled garden echo bubble it couldn't even monitor properly in the process of becoming a Media Company, Snap Inc. just wants to add new value in a renaissance. But it's probably too late.
The era of walled garden apps is too ingrained already in tech. WeChat is the one app that kills them all and even has mini-programs.
The Walled Garden Universe of Smartphone Addiction
Facebook and Google killed the democratization of content and stories a long time ago. Snapchat is like your little brother who thought he was a genius, but sort of sucks at life. It's not a bad thing per se, it's just Snap sort of wiped out on the dangerous beach of IPOs.
The web as a new community filled with new connections, the spark of enthusiasm of being new, is dead. Silicon Valley made sure to monetize it to another level.
Digital advertising killed the web and apps until we went greyscale.
Ex tech workers suggest turning your smartphone's resolution to grayscale can help curb smartphone addiction.
I'm not sure Snapchat has much verve left. Still 178 million daily active users is not nothing. Consider LinkedIn doesn't even report how many MAUs it has and likely has only a sliver of this itself with most of them being over 40. You start to get an idea of how powerful Snapchat could become as its the GenZ channel for millions of young people.
Sharing my stories on other walled gardens, unfortunately isn't going to democratize personal sharing. We no longer even have time to share our personal experiences. I don't know about you, but I've lost interest in even Instagram. Namely smartphone addiction and Netflix itself has killed the need for personal sharing, and social media will never be the same.
