How Small & Medium Businesses Can Make It Big With Cloud

This Tuesday, I was in Google Mumbai with some business owners for a workshop on “Building data-driven culture with Google Cloud Platform.”

While talking to the attendees of the workshop, I had a lot of insights and understanding about the potential that cloud can play to accelerate the pace and efficiency these businesses operate.?

One of the most interesting things was the curiosity that our team at Tatvic and Google were able to instill in these business owners and their teams that were working on some analytics related solutions but most of them were legacy.

That is why in this edition of the newsletter, I wanted to talk about the tools and solutions that can play as a catalyst when it comes to the growth of small and medium businesses.

Looker

This was the part where I could listen to the room to be the most buzzed. Being a business intelligence (BI) platform, Looker is a tool used for data modeling, governance, and creating complex data systems. It also helps in simplifying data exploration and visualisations.

Not to be confused with Looker Studio, which is a part of Looker and a dashboard builder.

How can it help small businesses?

Imagine, a medium-sized retail store chain using Looker to analyze sales data by product, location, and customer demographics. This can help them identify trends, optimize inventory management, and target marketing campaigns more effectively.

The problem of ordering and maintaining inventory based on different seasons and patterns could be predicted and solve one of the most crucial problems for retail store chains.

Big Query

Essentially, Big Query is a data warehouse that allows you to store and query large amounts of data at very fast speeds.

With Big Query, you can analyze massive datasets quickly and efficiently.

How can it help?

Say you have a marketing agency that can use BigQuery to analyze website traffic data from multiple clients. This can help you identify which marketing campaigns are performing best and then you can optimize strategies for each client.

And now, it is laced with AI-powered assistive and collaboration features. You can also manage your data across all data types across clouds, structured and unstructured, with fine-grained access control.

Database solutions

Google Cloud offers a variety of database solutions beyond Cloud SQL, including NoSQL databases for unstructured data and memory-store databases for real-time applications. Based on your existing data that is flowing in, you can choose the right database for your needs.

How can it help?

One of the most important assets for an app or a gaming company is the data.

Imagine a mobile gaming company can use a NoSQL database like Cloud Firestore to store user data and game progress.

This allows for flexible data storage and fast scaling as the player base grows.

Smart Analytics Solutions

There are a bunch of Smart Analytics Solutions that leverage machine learning to automate tasks and uncover hidden patterns in your data. Additionally, you can even gain deeper insights with machine learning (ML).

How can it help?

Assume a manufacturing SMB can use AI Platform Prediction to analyze sensor data from their machines and predict potential equipment failures. This allows them to perform preventive maintenance and avoid costly downtime.
