How to skip the New Years resolution

How to skip the New Years resolution

November is usually when people start to write off their health for the year.

Deciding that being fit and well is something they can think about in January. There's just too much going on at the end of the year for exercise and nutrition to be a priority. Most people think it's impossible to be fit while properly enjoying the holiday season with their loved ones.

Plus... that's what new years resolutions are for, right? ??

Well, I have a challenge for you this year!

I challenge YOU to keep your well-being top of your mind this holiday season. But, don't worry! This isn't actually as big of a challenge as you perhaps initially think.

Here's what I AM NOT challenging you to do:

  • I'm not asking you to carve a lot of time out of your schedule to workout and meal prep. I know you're busy, so we are going to do this with minimal time.
  • I am also not asking you to skip out on the fun, treats, cocktails and parties. ??

Here's the real challenge!

??????

Step 1: You are going to make time to move your body everyday

I am talking about intentional movement. Not chasing your kids, running errands, doing work tasks, or some sneaky multi-tasking time. Intentional movement for you and you alone.

Now, if you're thinking that is impossible... it's not. Because it is okay if this is only a couple minutes of time, and it's okay if it's moments of time that accumulate to a few minutes by the end of the day. I know you have moments to spare.

Here's how you can do this in a way that's not time-consuming:

  • Squeeze your abs anytime you hear or read the word 'holiday' starting NOW
  • Fix your posture anytime you get an alert on your phone
  • Dance around to your favorite song
  • Do a 15-minute workout in your living room

These short pauses in your day will add up. Those quick 3-15 minute chunks on movement are effective at helping you maintain your energy, strength and mobility through the holiday season.

Step 2: You are going to find a balance between fun and fitness.

Let's stop thinking in extremes and find a happy middle. You aren't choosing to either be healthy or unhealthy this season. You are choosing both!

It's not deciding whether or not you're allowed pie and cookies. It's about allowing yourself those things while balancing those things with healthier choices.

Let me give you some examples:

  • Don't go to a holiday party hungry. Eat healthfully the whole day leading up to the party and then enjoy a drink or treat at the event. If you are starving when you show up, you'll over-indulge. If you don't allow yourself any of the fun, you'll feel like you're missing out. So do both!
  • Choose holiday activities that keep you active. Things like ice skating, walking around festive neighborhoods, going shopping, helping hosts clean, and dancing at parties are great ways to enjoy the season while staying active.

Step 3: You will no allow yourself to end the year feeling like crap.

If you feel the need to make a resolution on January 1st to "be healthy," then you have failed this challenge. You will not feel: exhausted, bloated, heavy, or sluggish. You will NOT feel like you have to snap back to reality after the holidays.

See?! It can be that simple! ??

Don't overcomplicate it.

Just do things with your health in mind.

If that concept is complicated for you. That's why I exist. I can help you create a simple routine for the holidays! (Hope you squeezed your abs as you read that)

?? Now, the question is, are you up for the challenge?

Which of these three steps do you find the most challenging this time of year?

Let's continue the conversation in the comments. ??

I love your solution, Molly!! Something I try to opt for is walking when on holiday and even visiting family. Apparently just a brisk 20 min walk after a meal does wonders
