How Is Tightening Laser Therapy?

As we age, we lose a lot of the natural support that makes the skin on the face look youthful, which means our skin is not able to bounce back as quickly as we get older.

?At the Miami Skin Institute, we provide Skin Tightening laser therapies such as Viora?, Ulthera?, and Fraxel? to help address these concerns. Learning more about these therapies and their results will help you make a decision on what may work best on your skin.

Why Does Skin Get Looser

?Skin aging happens due to three factors, sun damage, genetics, and age, which reduce and weaken the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. This is what contributes to skin sagging or getting loose, as well as the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.

?Losing collagen and elastin is a natural part of the aging process. Collagen production starts to slow when we reach our mid-twenties, continues to be produces at a slower rate until menopause (for women), and slows down even further after menopause.

?Collagen and elastin are two of the most important components of the skin: Collagen molecules are what help the skin stay as tight and elastin is what helps give skin the ability to spring back into place. We also naturally lose the fat layer under the skin as we age. This is what causes dark circles to appear more prominently and fine lines and wrinkles to be more visible. Skin may also seem less “healthy “, drier, and paler when we lose this layer.

?Dehydration can also play a role in aging skin as it can’t bounce back when it doesn’t have the water it needs. Additionally, dehydration can cause many other health related concerns, so make sure that you’re drinking the recommended amount!

?Who Should Get Skin Tightening Laser Therapy?

?The people who notice significant sagging or drooping of the skin of their face, and even more so for those who also notice increasing appearance of fine lines or wrinkles, are the ones who would benefit most from having skin tightening laser therapy performed on them. Of course, these treatments are available to everyone who is willing to pay for them.

?Conversely, people whose skin is very sensitive or who experience break outs frequently may not be good candidates. The skin need to be strong enough to be able to stand up against these laser therapies.

?Dark spots and hyperpigmentation, whether they are caused by genetics, scarring, or aging, can also be helped by these skin tightening lasers.

?Remember, it’s important to understand that, aside from surgery, no procedures can give drastic results, so make sure to adjust your expectations accordingly and don’t think you’ll come out looking like an entirely new person.

?How Do Skin Tightening Lasers Work??

Skin lasers come in two categories - ablative and non-ablative. Ablative treatments remove some of the top layer of the skin, AKA the epidermis, to stimulate the tightening of the skin and require more recovery time. Non-ablative laser treatments are the less invasive option of the two. They cause no damage to the top layer of the skin and require less downtime. Both categories use either nonfractionated (more general) or fractionated (equally distributed) to get their results.

All skin tightening laser treatments work in basically the same way: the lasers are applied to the desired areas of the skin and safely penetrate into the layer of the skin. The medical provider performing the treatment will adjust the depth and strength of the laser to give you your desired result. The lasers then create small amounts of heat that affects the water molecules that are present in the skin. As these molecules heat up, they eventually turn into gas and vaporize the cells around it, triggering the process fibroplasias (AKA the wound healing process) which is what causes the increased collagen production.

What Else Can Help Tighten The Skin?

It’s never a bad idea to establish a good skin care routine and wear sunscreen as quality skin care is one of the most important factors to keeping the skin healthy and youthful.

?Simply cleansing your skin could help, especially if you have noticed a major reduction in the brightness and radiance of your skin. This will help get rid of the top layer of dead skin cells and pollutants from the environment that build up throughout the day, which are what make the skin look dull. It’s much harder for the skin to be able to renew itself if it has to fight through a layer of old, dead cells.

?In Summary

?With Miami Skin Institute, you have other options than laser treatments to keep the skin firm and young looking. Developing a quality skin care routine and moisturizing, while incorporating them with the judicious “natural” use of injectables and light laser treatments will help you hold back the tides of time as long as possible. We’d love to help you help yourself, because you really can achieve any goal you set for yourself! A?
