How simple can it be?

The driver of the Chairman of the Board of a big company in the Netherlands retired. Half a year later his wife died. When the Chairman heard about this he rescheduled his appointments and attended the funeral. For him this was the least he could do for the man who drove him around the country for more than ten years.

Her cancer came back and there was a lot of despair in her eyes. Her manager called her the next morning. He told her that she had given the best years of her life to the company and now the company would repay her and help her in any way they could. After nearly a year my colleague returned to work. And she still works with us.

My former manager bought a table football for his employees. Work hard and relax hard! He said that he was a former Dutch Champion. Nobody dared to challenge him. One day I placed a glove and a note on his desk. We played for over an hour. Talking about raising children, our favorite sports when we were young and being a teamplayer or not. He won but we had a great time.

People go to parties and talk about their work.

Companies often think about their 'WHY'. Why they are doing things, how they are doing things and what they are doing.

Treating your employees as a person and not just as an employee is what makes a company special. How simple can it be? This is why people work for you and eventually this is why people want to do business with you.

Well said Kees. Yes we know businesses exist to generate a profit but this should never be at the expense of the welfare of team members of customers.?
