How to signal the clients you want

Hi! You’re here because you’re a woman who runs an independent consulting business, and you want to learn how to make it more profitable. In our world, that means doing more of the work you love, with the clients you enjoy, and getting paid for your value, not your time.

If you want to attract the right consulting clients, it's not enough to talk about the problem you solve.?


You also need to signal the client you want to solve that problem for.?The exact client who has that problem, and you want to work with.


There's a big difference.


For example, let’s say in my content, I only signaled the problem:


“You want more clients”

“You feel uncomfortable marketing”

“You want to make more money”


That speaks to a LOT of people, most of whom are not my target audience.?


In fact, that’s what happened for the first few years of my business.


I DID get people coming to me who wanted more clients, felt uncomfortable marketing, and wanted to make more money.?


They were also:


  1. An independent jewelry designer
  2. MLM people who sold leggings and makeup to their neighbors
  3. Startup founders
  4. People who sold products
  5. People who wanted to sell an online course for $99
  6. People who were looking for their business idea
  7. Consultants


Only ONE of those is my actual target client.


When I started talking DIRECTLY to my ideal client, it changed everything.


Almost immediately, I stopped getting the wrong people.


● "You want more clients" became… "You want to work with more of the right consulting clients, not simply the ones who've found you so far."

●"You feel uncomfortable marketing" became… "It feels weird to put yourself out there, because you never had to do it in your corporate career."

● "You want to make more money" became… "You want to make more money as a consultant, but you don't want to take time away from the people who matter to you."


I’m still talking about the problem I solve, but I’m also speaking directly to the clients I want by sending them signals they will understand.?


Think about it: WHAT problem do you solve, and WHO do you solve it for?
