How to Show Up Consistently in Your Coaching Business Even When You Don't Want To!

Consistency is the key to success in any business, especially in the coaching industry. As a coach, your clients rely on you to provide guidance, support, and motivation. However, when you don't have clients or have only a few, it can be challenging to stay consistent with how you show up, when you show up and even why you are showing up.

Doubts, lack of inspiration/motivation, and the absence of immediate results can all contribute to wavering commitment. We can make our commitment conditional on how we feel in any given moment.

A Question I Get Asked a Lot:

"How do you stay so consistent?" This is a question I receive frequently, and I understand why. Consistency is necessary in your business, but it can be super challenging when you're stepping outside of societal expectations or facing personal obstacles. When I started my coaching business as a single parent, I had an unwavering determination not to fail. This initial stubbornness became the foundation for my consistency. Failing was not an option, mainly because I didn't want to be embarrassed so I was determined to do whatever it took. However, there were still moments when I felt demotivated, fearful even skeptical especially when the results were not coming in at the speed I wanted them to.

My Key Strategies for Staying Consistent:

  1. Set Clear Goals: Start by defining your long-term vision and break it down into smaller, achievable goals. I personally love working on a 90 day sprint with clear and tangible outcomes to work towards. Having a clear roadmap allows you to stay on track.
  2. Find Your "Why": Understand the underlying reasons why you started your coaching business. Reflect on your passion for helping others, the impact you want to make, and the personal fulfilment it brings. This will support you in focusing outwards rather than inwards. Be committed to your why and not what your expectations of the journey to it is.
  3. Embrace the Growth Mindset: Incorporate my 3 A's into your way of being - Awareness, Acceptance and Action. Bring awareness to what is working for you and what is not both in terms of strategy and what your attitude is towards it. Accept that setbacks and lack of immediate results are part of the journey so that you can view challenges as opportunities for learning and growth. Embrace the process and understand that consistent effort will yield results over time.
  4. Create a Routine: I can't tell you enough how important this is. My first ever 10k month came when I was consistent and committed to my daily routine. Establishing a consistent routine helps to eliminate decision fatigue and sets the foundation for consistent action. This includes scheduling all activities for work, play, self care, sleep and everything in between. Time blocking is the most amazing tool available to have a fully enriched life. By making these activities habitual, you reduce the likelihood of procrastination or excuses.
  5. Accountability and Support: Your network is your net worth. Never a truer word has been spoken. Surround yourself with a supportive network of peers, mentors, and accountability partners who understand your journey and can provide guidance and encouragement. Going at it alone can feel isolating and will ultimately slow your journey down.
  6. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. This must become a daily habit for you so that you can recognise your success. It goes along the way to boost your confidence and motivate you to keep going, even during challenging times. If times feel tough, you can reflect back on all you have achieved so far.
  7. Self-Care and Rest: It's essential to take care of your own well-being to maintain consistency in your coaching business. Make self-care activities such as exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness, and sufficient rest a non negotiable. When you take care of yourself, you're better equipped to show up consistently for your clients.
  8. Review and Reflect: Regularly assess your progress, attitude, leadership strategies, and outcomes. Reflect on what's working well and what needs improvement. Use this feedback to make adjustments to your approach, refine your goals, and stay aligned with your vision.

Staying consistent in your coaching business is not always easy, but it's essential for long-term success. By setting clear goals, finding your "why," embracing a growth mindset, establishing a routine, seeking support, celebrating wins, prioritising self-care, and reviewing your progress, you can overcome the challenges and maintain consistency, even when you don't want to. Remember, every small step forward contributes to your journey towards a thriving coaching business. Stay determined, focused, and resilient
