How Should I Share my Video on LinkedIn?

When you are contemplating should I upload my video (native) or share a link to my video from say Youtube... it becomes perplexing?
You basically have 4 options to post a video when sharing to LinkedIn and I'll break them down here for you with benefits and potential negative. Let's go...
Option A: Upload to share your video (natively) to your Company LinkedIn page
Option B: Share the video from your company page to your personal profile as a post
Option C: Upload to share your video (natively) to your LinkedIn profile as a post
Option D: Share a link to your video to your company page or personal profile
Natively uploading your video: One of the best reasons to upload and share a video (natively) is that the starts to autoplay once people scroll past it in their Home feed. Similar to the Facebook feed, this is the best potential engagement for people viewing your videos. People simply scroll down and thus do not have to click anything, but hopefully pause and hold on your video to fully watch it. The first 3-5 seconds of your video becomes very important in this case and be sure to brand it and even add your contact details then.
For the best engagement upload your video file natively into LinkedIn!

Option A: Upload and share your video to your company page, if you have one. This way it's branded content shared from the company and not from one employee such as the CMO or from the busy CEO. This will be viewed by the people who already 'follow' your company page and sadly will get buried in their feed due to algorithms at play. Most companies only have a handful of people following company pages on LinkedIn, so viewership will be low. One strong benefit is that it allows any new people who view your video to then 'follow' your company page, growing your reach. Also others can now shared your video to their personal pages (Option 2), and new people will then be able to follow your company. Note, this is the only possible option if you plan to purchase advertising within LinkedIn, based on your company page posts.

Option B: Post your video to your company page and then have the CEO and other employees share it to their personal LinkedIn profiles. This way the video content is already in LinkedIn, and new people can then follow the company page to get new updates in the future from the company/brand page. I typically recommend this process of sharing, but I have noticed less engagement and video views with this option. Plus, you have to add a new post synopsis above the original post, which can often feel duplicative and redundant. This is a great way to reshare your company post from employee to extend your reach and increase your company page followers!

Option C: Upload and share your company video directly to your personal profile page. This will notify your connection network about your video. As CEO of PitchHub.com (a video software platform), Andrew Devlin did in his first synopsis line, he added the @ symbol and tagged his own company, so people can click on it to follow. Which, by the way, does not work here in writing articles for some reason? While your video views and engagement will normally be higher with this type of share option, you then become a primary source of new company content to share, and it can often dominate your Activity feed. Plus your connections want to hear about 'you' personally, not just branded company updates. Use this type sparingly and as your company and team grows above 5-10 people discontinue it's usage.

Option D: Share a link to a video on an externally hosted site, such as Youtube or Vimeo. While this video will play in this same window, without having to take you to another site, as you can see it is oddly greyed out, on the desktop version. The mobile Linkedin app does not grey out this type of video share, I have no idea why LinkedIn did it differently.
Utilize this type of share if you do not have the exact video file to upload, don't own the video, or want to drive traffic to an external channel. Drive people to your Youtube channel to build your views and Subscriber there for added benefits, as the #2 search engine in the world. Or maybe to a website page, offer landing page or a blog page, so that people can subscribe there for even more updates.
Share links when you need people to view your video on an external page!

So as you can see there are various options as methods to share your new video content on LinkedIn. Here's also what it looks like to share or create a video from the LinkedIn app:
The LinkedIn mobile app, here's a screenshot of what it looks like to share from your mobile device. You are presented with this one option when sharing videos.
Select Take a Video to record or upload an existing video from your camera roll, which oddly hidden a bit in the app from your camera roll, it's an icon to click.
Now you could also copy and paste an external link to a video here too, but similarly to option D of sharing an external link, it's the least productive option when related to engagement of your video content.
As you can now see posting a video to LinkedIn is not as simple as it may sound. Many social platforms are now even more complicated than this one... don't get me started on Instagram!
My pro media tip here is to work with a social media marketing company or a virtual assistant (VA) to assist you in sharing your video content for you.
