How should h-class vacuum cleaners be prepared for final decontamination?

Final decontamination is the deep cleaning and service of equipment such as h-class vacuum cleaners by a specialised company. This should be carried out at least every 6 months and is a legal requirement. However, if the asbestos plant has high usage levels, it may be recommended that you do this more frequently. This is to ensure equipment maintains optimum performance levels and is free from damage and safe to use.

Before h-class vacuums are delivered or collected by the servicing company, an essential preparation should be carried out. This is the same process that should be carried out at the end of a project when the product will be used again at a later date.

At the end of a project, the h-class vacuum should be wiped down and the inner bag removed and bagged for disposal. A new clean bag should then be fitted. The hose should be detached and bagged separately. All of this should be carried out within the enclosure.

This should be carried out to reduce the potential spread of hazardous particles outside of an enclosure which would increase the risk of secondary exposure to the wider team on site.
