How She Shows Us What Grit Means

How She Shows Us What Grit Means

Dear?Reader,

Every day, Odettians overcome challenges even when they seem impossible. The stories we hear from our Odettians show us that we are surrounded by grit.?

How she stood there in the darkness wondering if she had the strength to make it through the night. And somehow the sky helped her believe it was possible.

?

How she needed to leave home, the home that had tried to bury her alive, and how she made it to a safe house, finally able to rebuild her life.

?

How she lost her husband, and told me, “my child is not an orphan, I will be her father and mother.” How she got her daughter admitted to school, on her own, with her own money.

?

How she married him against her parent’s wishes - and the death threats of cousins and neighbors. How she decided not to live in fear anymore. How she owns her happiness.

?

How her parents stole her computer and laptop so she would stop working and get married. How she decided to move out of her home, get a new computer and follow her dreams. How she paid for her own Masters in Computer Science, lighting a flame under her dreams.

?

We, the Odettian community, are bound together by these stories of resilience and love.

In honor of these women,?

Katharine

Odettian Quote

“Many many best wishes and so much love to you??I want to specially thank you for Odetta. This year I lost my mother and throughout that difficult time, Odetta has been a very big support for me. First financially and then to distract me from this intense grief. I love Odetta.” — Iruj Khalid

Quote of the Month

“Lakota/Sioux considered a person experiencing great loss and deep pain to be among the holy. The freeing but devastating state opens the veil between other worlds. The individual is given sacred wisdom and insight. When we are split wide open, there’s nowhere left to hide.”

Thank you for connecting and sharing! My contract employees are women from India. They used to make $2 a day. They are women of grit and I pay them a living wage. Their families depend on their income. One is a brand new first-time mom who's husband is a merchant marine and gone 9 months out of the year. Another's husband died unexpectedly last year at only 40 and she is raising two little boys on her own. I love them like family and think we are a better world because of these kinds of connections. Looking forward to the future of work with new possibilities.
