How to shape perception and inspire sustainable energy action

Potentials only unfold when those in whose hands these rest are cognizant of the potentials and how to make use of them; similarly, obligations imposed initially may create tensions among those affected. By creating perception, one goes a step further than by creating awareness as it additionally delivers the ability to adapt “what one is aware of” to different contexts.

This sets the foundation for triggering intrinsic action: as soon as one is not only aware of potentials or obstacles, but also gains an understanding on how these potentials can be accessed/used. Similarly, on what the background of obstacles is to be able to dissolve or understand why certain actions are uncomfortable but perhaps necessary (understanding of the system and the intricacies behind the visible issue).

The above will be at the center of the upcoming cross-cutting special issue of the Bi-monthly online discussion forum series, in which three speakers will share insights on how system understanding, perception and hence associated self-driven actions or understanding for necessary transformations can be fostered to support the ongoing transition to resilient energy system, achieving the SDGs, the 2030 and climate goals.

The objective of the event on 6 February 2024 (14-16 CET, online) is to showcase pathways that make knowledge accessible, tangible, and that can aide and empower relevant stakeholders – National and Local Authorities, Business and Industry, Scientific and Technological Community, Non-Governmental Organizations, and other major groups – to effectively communicate the urgency and significance of deploying sustainable energy and energy resilience solutions and policies while empowering stakeholders to understand why and how they can (or should) take action.

?The discussion will make an attempt to cultivate a shared commitment and inspire action to navigate the intricacies of energy system transformation, working towards a resilient energy future aligned with Sustainable Development Goals and climate targets.
