Twitter users have reacted differently to Twitter's bold decision to start charging for two-factor authentication (2FA) for non-Twitter Blue subscribers. Twitter claims the action is meant to increase user security while swiping on this Elon Musk-owned social media platform.
Since Musk bought Twitter, there have been numerous updates to the application interface and architecture, not to mention that you must pay a monthly fee of $8 to qualify as a Twitter Blue user. Some users are happy with how Elon runs Twitter, whereas others are disappointed with these policies aimed at monetizing the app.
However, Twitter says that starting on March 20, 2023, only Twitter Blue subscribers can use SMS messages as their two-factor authentication method. Other accounts can use authenticate with an authentication app or security key.
Several authentication tools are available, including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 2FAS, Duo Mobile, and many more. But in this article, I go over how to set up Twitter's 2FA using Google Authenticator.
