How to Set Up Google Ads Conversion Tracking (3 Easy Methods – No Coding Required!)

This week, I’m breaking down how to properly set up Google Ads conversion tracking using three simple methods, even if you’re not technical and don’t want to touch code.

By the end of this, you’ll be able to track your conversions accurately, optimize your ad performance, and avoid wasting money on poorly tracked campaigns.

Method 1: The Codeless Google Ads Conversion Tracking (Fastest & Easiest)

If you want the simplest way to set up conversion tracking, Google Ads now has a codeless option that makes it easy, Here’s how to do it:

1?? Log in to your Google Ads account and go to Tools & Settings > Measurement > Conversions

2?? Click “New Conversion Action” and select Website

3?? Enter your website URL and click Scan

4?? Choose the conversion type (Purchase, Lead, Sign-up, etc.)

5?? Select the Codeless Option and give your conversion a name

6?? Choose a trigger: Add a unique portion of a URL that users are redirected to when successfully placing an order, Example: on my website, uses get redirected to the following page when placing orders: https://ahmedteststore99.myshopify.com/checkouts/cn/Z2NwLXVzLWNlbnRyYWwxOjAxSk1ISlZETkpYS1pHN1NaMTJUMllLR0s4/thank-you

That's why I will use the below condition for my conversion setup:

This is Best For:

? Beginners who don’t want to touch code.

? Quick and easy tracking setup.

? Small businesses running ads for lead generation.


Method 2: Using Google Tag Manager for Conversion Tracking (Highly Recommended)

Here’s how:

1?? In Google Ads, go to Conversions and create a new conversion action, make sure to select the manual method this time.

2?? Give your conversion a Name

3?? Select “Use Google Tag Manager” as your implementation method

4?? Copy the Conversion ID and Conversion Label

5?? Go to Google Tag Manager and create a New Tag > Google Ads Conversion Tracking

6?? Paste your Conversion ID and Conversion Label

7?? Add in the corresponding variables to each section of the tag (for example: add a variable for the conversion revenue that dynamically passes the conversion value of each conversion)

7?? Set the trigger to fire when the conversion event occurs (e.g., purchase, form submission) > Save, and test using Preview Mode in GTM.

? Best For:

  • Users who already use GTM for tracking
  • Those who want more control over their triggers and conditions
  • Businesses running multiple conversion events


Method 3: Native Integration (For Shopify, WordPress, and Other Platforms)

If you’re using a platform like Shopify, WordPress, or Wix, you might not need to manually configure anything as the platform has built-in Google Ads conversion tracking!
