How to Set Up Email Forwarding
You're a voice actor. It means you have a website (right)? Clients and casting directors need to contact you, and you will need to display an email address on your site.
But you're a privacy-priority person. You don't like the idea of having an email address publicly available for all to see.
Enter Email Forwarding.
What if there was a layer of privacy between your real email inbox and a public-facing, VO-business-only contact email address? That is what Email Forwarding can do.
Just like any other email address, anyone can send you an email to the shell address. The shell address will, then, automatically forward the email to your actual inbox.
From there, you can delete the ones that do not deserve your attention, and reply to the ones that needs it - from your actual email address.
STEP ONE: Create a new shell address. I went with [email protected]:
Go through the steps of verification and agree to things. When you're finished, you'll have a shiny new gmail account.
STEP TWO: Click on Settings:
STEP THREE: Click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP," then click on "Add a forwarding address," and type in your actual email address:
STEP FOUR: Again, go through the verification process. When you return, you'll be able to select "Forward a copy of incoming mail to [the actual email address]" option:
STEP FIVE: Test it.

A test email is being sent from [email protected] (client)
to [email protected] (shell address)
and it should arrive at [email protected] (actual address)
And sure enough, here is the email in my [email protected] inbox (the yellow avatar on the top right is how I know). Notice how the heading still displays "to: [email protected]" to show that this is a forwarded email:
What happens if I reply to it?
Expectedly, the email comes back to [email protected], sent from [email protected] (and yes, I have many email addresses xD).
But that is ok, because if you're replying, this is someone who needs your attention and it is okay to reveal your actual address to this person.
So,
Here's what I suggest: Have Two Business Email Addresses
[email protected] is a shell email address that is displayed in public places for the singular purpose of screening emails, and
[email protected] is an actual email address that normal business is operated from with trusted colleagues, clients, and more.
I hope this helped. Should you have any questions, please let me know!

1 年So I did step two through four and the test email wasn't forwarded, it was just sent to my shell. When I am entering the forwarding email am I doing so in the Settings of my actual email or the shell?
