How To Set Up An Auto Responder For LinkedIn
Auto responder for LinkedIn will be a cool feature that will make digital connection more convenient. Just like the nature of any auto responder, the message that gets sent out to your new contacts cannot be personalized and as such it does not have the same affect that you would’ve hoped for.
Perhaps, as far as LinkedIn is concerned the non-existence of a feature or third-party applications for an auto responder for LinkedIn is a good thing especially because the connections you make on LinkedIn are more professional and lasting than other connections you make on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Although I live online for the most part and I enjoy making new digital connections, I’m very mindful that each of the social media platforms need to be used for its intended purpose and such intent will vary from people to people.
I do confess that I use an auto-responder feature for my business twitter page and that is where I draw the line.
That being said, I always make a habit of sending a response to anyone on LinkedIn who accepts my requests for connections and those who request to connect with me on LinkedIn.
I would like most of my new contacts to receive a personal message from me just to get to know more about all that I do and how, if any, I can take my connections further with them and apply it to an actual personal and professional relationship.
We all know and have experienced that time is a rare commodity during the hours we allocate to our online digital connections and in light of the fact that are no auto responders for LinkedIn, this is what I suggest that can be done
- Create up to 5 different type of responses that are not more than 3 paragraphs
- Save each of these responses in your draft folder in your email
I am hoping that the connections you make on LinkedIn are with those people who skills or positions are of an interest to you. This way it will make it easier to draft out a message that you want to send to them after they connect with you.
For example, if you have requested to connect with someone on LinkedIn and you would like them to learn more about you and also you want to thank them for requesting to connect. After you get an email from LinkedIn informing you that your request to connect has been accepted. I recommend that you view the profile of that person and endorse them for up to 5 skills, and send them a message to say hello and thank you.
The message that you will be sending to them is in a way regarded as your “auto-responder” on LinkedIn. The reason I call it an auto responder is that instead of typing a three or four paragraph of an introduction about yourself, you can just refer to the draft emails that you have saved previously and choose which of the messages you’ve composed is befitting to that particular individual and you will simply copy & paste in the message box on LinkedIn.
Some of the things you shall never do when you are responding for the first time to a connection on LinkedIn are:
- Do not sell any of your products or services
- Do not over glorify yourself
- Do not write more than 3 paragraphs and limit each paragraph to 3 lines (professionals hardly have time to read a lengthy introduction and you’ll be regarded as a spammer)
I trust that you will use this method of creating your own quasi-auto responder on LinkedIn at your own discretion and do not spam your new contacts because that defeat the purpose of your well-intended gesture to professionally connect with someone on LinkedIn.
