You often set goals and fail to achieve it, whether it be reading a book, losing weight, completing an unfinished task, and the list goes on.
There are Individuals who set goals at the start of the week or month and then they forget about them and set the same goals again for the next month and it becomes a vicious pattern.
Why do you give up? Or Why do you fail in achieving your goal?
- You expect results too fast.
- You don’t perform your task perfectly which ends up ruining your mood.
- You get distracted quickly.
- You lack focus and willingness.
- Less motivation.
- You have disempowering beliefs.
- No accountability partner, etc.
What happens when you fail to achieve your goals?
- You end up at the same level you were 12 months back.
- You end being more disappointed with self.
- You feel anxious when you see others succeeding and accomplishing the same goal which you were willing to accomplish.
- You feel demotivated and negative.
- You get agitated and confused when someone asks you about your life/goals/plans.
Achieving goals is simple if you make it simple and favorable as per your needs. Take your journal and write down the pointers, questions and answers to gain clarity.
Steps to follow for achieving your Goal:
- Identity-
Goals are not in your control but you have total control over your behavior, habits and daily actions. “Universe does not provide you with what you want, it provides you with an analysis of who you are.”
Whatever your goal is, ask yourself,
“Who do I need to Become to make this possible?”
“What do I need to STOP doing now and REPLACE it with something which will bring change in me?”
Your goal becomes your Identity. For every successful person they have goals which match their identity. For e.g.,
- A man who runs every day, people start recognizing as a fit person,
- A man who reads is known as wise and intelligent,
- A man who owns Business is recognized as bold, wise, and social…
You build your Identity on what you do and what goals you have. To accomplish any goal, you first need to determine, “Who you are willing to become to achieve this?”
2. Disempowering beliefs: Your disempowering beliefs are those which stops you from reaching your goals. e.g., “I can’t do this…”, “I am not good enough…”, “I am too young/old for this…” and so on…
It is said, “We become what we believe.” Thus, to reach your goals you need to change your beliefs which are sabotaging you.
In your journal write down answers to these questions:
- What’s stopping you? What beliefs/ thoughts are pulling you back?
- What are you waiting for?
- What expectations are stopping you?
- How reliable is your thinking?
Make 2 columns in your journal and write down all your disempowering beliefs on one side, on the other side write beliefs that are more mature and real…
E.g., “I am not good enough…”, “I am enough to do anything if I learn and practice it consistently.”
“People will laugh at me…”, “Right people will praise and support me for my work.”
“I have never done this…”, “I am good at this and I believe If I do this once, I can do it twice, thrice and consistently.”
Replace all your immature beliefs with more mature and supportive ones. Read them daily.
3. Write and take action: Have a massive vision of 7-10 years. Make a Timeline of Where Are You Now and Where You Want to Go. Visualize and write:
- What are you doing? Why are you doing what you do?
- Where are you?
- Who are the people around you? Why are they beside you?
- How are you performing in each area of your life i.e. (Business/Profession, Family, Emotional life, Spiritual life, Physical Fitness, Personal growth)?
- Rate yourself from 0-5 in each area of your life to understand where you need to improve.
Write in as much detail as possible.
Once you have done this, ask yourself, “What should I do in next 6 months that will bring me closer to what I want to achieve?” Once decided now write down, “What you will do today, tomorrow and in the coming week to get closer to your goals?”
Write down,
- “How are you going to do this?”
- “Who will help me?”
- “What habits will I change slowly?”
- “What beliefs am I accepting?”
- “What small action will I take today to get closer to my goal?”
Take tiny steps and actions to move ahead. See your goals every day. Communicate them confidently with someone you trust. Don’t try to do it all at once. Make small adjustments to daily routine.
5 Ways to STOP PROCRASTINATION:
- Plan your day in advance. Write your Goals and what you will gain once you achieve them. See them in the morning, in the afternoon (to recheck how you can perform) and at night.
- Break big tasks in small chunks and schedule it. Avoid multitasking.
- Focus on only 2 important goals for a day.
- Apply 90/90/1 rule by Robin Sharma: For the Next 90 Days Focus first 90 Minutes of your work on a Single most important task. In those 90 minutes avoid all the distractions especially mobile phones. You can set a separate app of urgent messages and calls.
- Get all resources you need to accomplish the task. Know the people who will help you.
Follow all the above steps to gain deep insight of what you desire and How you will achieve it.
