Communicating through your wardrobe is a powerful way to express yourself and make a statement. Clothing can speak volumes about your personality, style, and beliefs, so it's important to consider the messages you want to send when you get dressed each day.
Whether you're heading to work, a social event or just running errands, the clothes you choose can help you connect with others and position yourself. Here is what you should consider when you want to communicate through your wardrobe effectively.
Let's start with a color.
Colors can evoke different emotions and send different messages. For example, red is often associated with energy and passion, while blue is associated with calmness and stability. I personally use color to give a certain impression.
Light colors like white, blush, or ivory will convey a welcoming and open attitude. That's one of the reasons I choose those colors often. On the other hand, when I want to blend in, I pick a dark color like navy, black or gray. There are also certain situations, especially when I attend networking events I want my wardrobe to be magnetic. I usually pick brighter colors to help me stand out from the crowd.
Structure, silhouettes, and shapes
Outside of colors, shapes and silhouettes can also help you communicate. Let's start with a structure. The more your clothes have a structure, the more authority you can communicate. That's why blazers, outside of being a go-to choice for women who want to look presentable the structure of blazers help communicate your authority.

If you pick well-structured dresses, you will get a similar outcome. Sheath dresses are a perfect example that communicates power, authority, and control.
Prints are my favorite elements to incorporate into my wardrobe to communicate through my wardrobe.
For professional settings, I like to pick classic prints like polka dots and stripes as those are associated with more formal environments; on the other hand, prints like florals and geometric prints are great for more casual settings.
Prints usually create a more friendly and open vibe, so I incorporate prints during less formal events. When I attend a formal event, I pick solid colors to help me look more traditional.
