How to Self-Promote (without Being a Jerk)
The basic idea: This is going to be a very short newsletter issue, because it links to an entire book on this subject.
Over the weekend, I took my most popular book—How to Self-Promote (without Being a Jerk) and put the entire contents on a new, free website called Self-Promote.
My goal isn't to make more money or gain a wider following. It's to help more people.
A bit more background: While this book is packed with tips about being genuine and engaging online, it's really not about social media.
The book is organized around my personal credo, which is:
Be generous and expert, trustworthy and clear, open-minded and adaptable, persistent and present.
It's a short handbook for living a rewarding life, one rooted in helping others. You can read the entire contents in an hour, but many readers tell me they go back through the pages months and even years later.
My goal—much as it's a bit scary to admit—is to help one million people benefit from the simple lessons in these pages. Lessons such as:
- Do What You Do Best
- Use Levels of Substance
- Have One Point
- Don't Take No Answer As a No
- Follow the Theory of Seven
- Minimize the Trivial
Why one million? Because it's a big, hairy audacious goal large enough to motivate me to really make a difference in this world.
