How To Seed A Two-Sided Niche Marketplace
Sramana Mitra
Founder and CEO of One Million by the One Million (1Mby1M) Global Virtual Accelerator
During this week’s roundtable, we had as our guest David Ciccarelli, Founder and CEO at Voices.com. David has scaled a two-sided marketplace to $20 million in net revenue and discussed his inspiring journey.
You can listen to the recording of this roundtable here:
Ziyak
Up first, Randy Grommet from Kansas City, Missouri, pitched Ziyak, an app for finding local events in various cities.
Insuredmine
Next Raution Jaiswal from Plano, Texas, pitched Insuredmine, a dashboard for bringing together various insurance plans. I did not find the concept convincing and voiced my concerns.
Uhome
Then Deep Barot from San Francisco, California, pitched Uhome, a service for connecting home improvement service providers with local consumers. The market is very crowded with dominant players like Thumbtack that are heavily funded and with huge traction. This concept, at this stage, would be very difficult to finance. Without proving traction, no investor would touch it. Too much capital requirement and too big a financing risk in my opinion.
As always, I would very much like to hear about your business, so let me invite you to come and pitch at one of our free 1M/1M public roundtables. We will be holding future roundtables at 8 a.m. PDT on:
