How To: Secure your Google Admin account with these best practices

If you’ve ever received the email below from The Google Cloud Team on best practices for securing your Google Admin account then you may be wondering how to actually do a couple of the recommendations.

  • Create an additional super admin account
  • Super admins shouldn’t remain signed in to their account

A dear friend forwarded me the email. They expressed feeling overwhelmed and having no idea if they are logging in as a regular user or an admin. You may be feeling the same.

Good news! Help is here. The link below is to a wonderfully detailed article by Priya with https://www.thatonlinestuff.com.au/. Priya walks through each step for creating an additional super admin account and removing the Super Admin role from your existing Google Workspace account.

Full article with all the details:

Improve your Google Workspace security by adding a Super Admin account

NOTE: You can follow these steps if you are a one person business and have only one user on your Google Workspace account.

There are 4 basic steps involved.

  1. Sign up for Google Cloud Identity Free edition
  2. Create a new Google Cloud Identity Free user
  3. Add recovery information for this new user
  4. Assign the Super Admin role to the new user and remove it from your personal user account

That's it. Let me know if you follow the steps or would like help completing them. I'd love to help. Your feedback is a gift.
