How to score 6 new prospects at your next networking event using the LinkedIn app

Network events are great places to meet new people but we tend to waste a lot of time talking to the people we know. LinkedIn wants to do something about that and added over past months some great new features. When you put them all together they become fabulous accelerators for lead gen for the social sellers amongst us. 

Finding new prospects

When you are at a networking meeting, there might be a lot of people. Finding out who is really there is sometimes a big challenge. With the feature “Find Nearby” you can now discover who is at the event. You can quickly browse their profiles and titles before moving onto the next step

Getting introduced

Your next move is to talk to them. You could, of course, invite them here and then but a much better approach to hook up with the newly found prospect is to ask for an introduction. Just see who are the mutual connections at the event that can do this In-Real-Life introduction. Use the power of your network.

Connect away

Now that you have been introduced, it is time to connect. Using the new QR Code feature, you can easily scan, find and connect with your newly found contact and start your social selling journey.

Make it personal

As a social seller you know that sending generic connection requests (even if the person is standing next to you) is not a good idea, so you personalize the message so the new connection remembers you when they accept the request.

Great article, Mic. However, I find the Find Nearby doesn’t work, as both parties have to be on it at the same time, and then it’s only people you’re already connected to, which is only half the battle. I write about this often in my #LinkTips. I am a big proponent of us by hashtags for events and following them. Hashtags are HUGELY powerful here on LinkedIn.
