How to Schedule Content & Make Life Easier

Keeping yourself on track when you are working is the difference between success and failure. Successful businessmen have used calendars for decades to organize their work and keep themselves on track.

For your marketing, a content calendar will help you produce, and publish content at the right times. Here are our tips on setting up your content calendar.

Plan for Content Creation

One of the rookie mistakes we see in content calendars is a failure to account for creation time. Content does not magically appear in your file no matter how long you wait. Written content may take a few days, while video content may take a few weeks. Your calendar needs to have completion dates that are set far enough back from posting that you have time to create new content. We try to produce our content a full month ahead of time to ensure that we have the posts ready for the next month.

Choose When to Post

If you have ever posted on social media, you will probably have noticed that certain posts don’t do as well based solely off when you post them. Even a personal post that is posted outside of traditional viewing times can slip by your friends who actually care about what you have to say. Business posts are even more difficult to time.

Posting at the right time will help you engage your audience better. To find the right time, you will have to experiment a little bit. The easiest way to figure out when to post is to talk with your target market. Find out when they are on social media, when they check emails, and when they are likely to interact with your posts. A simple conversation is far more effective than weeks of trying everything.

Leave Space for Adjustments

No plan is perfect. No matter how good your plan is, it will have to be adjusted when you encounter reality. That’s why we recommend that you leave room to make adjustments to your plan. We don’t create all the content up front because we want to be able to address certain things as we go or as problems arise. The plan will keep us on track, but only if we don’t follow it so rigidly that we fail to account for the differences between our plans and reality.

Topics may vary slightly from what you lay out at first because you have had more time to think things through. Your clients circumstances may have become more challenging. If you leave room to adjust and adapt, you will be better prepared than a person who has every minute detail planned.

Keep it Logical

One of the details that gets overlooked is the big picture view of your campaign. When you lay out your content step by step in detail, you may lose sight of the overall goals. And sometimes, content will be placed out of order. Reviewing the content and keeping it in a logical flow will help your content make more sense.

We have put together a content calendar that you can use to organize, plan, and schedule your campaigns.
