Are you needing to hear this too? This one goes out to everyone who has lost contact or closeness with a friend or family member because of conspiracies, polarisation or mistaken beliefs, and for those of us grieving the cracks in the environmental and social justice movements that detract from the bigger issues. Of course some differences compromise psychological or physical safety, and no one is advocating folks buddy up to others who have violent intentions towards them and what makes them unique and special. But most differences, even some of the very big ones, are a part of the ecosystem of relationships and community. Kids teach their parents and grandparents so much about the changing world, and cult survivors overwhelmingly recover because one person refused to write them off despite their marginal beliefs. Within social movements, shooting sideways only slows progress while fossil fuel companies and conservative media continue to grow in the background. Kindness begets kindness.
