How Ryan Badcock drives business improvement by challenging conventional thinking and leveraging the power of the network

We are delighted to announce that July’s member spotlight is shining on Ryan Badcock. Ryan is an experienced Business Improvement Consultant and a member of HiveMind Network. We caught up with him to talk about his experience as a member of the network.

Tell us about yourself…

I’m thrilled to have joined HiveMind Network in January 2023

I currently reside in Poole, Dorset, and began my career in Mechanical Engineering, where I had the opportunity to work on and maintain heavy equipment for the Ministry of Defence, including tanks, personnel carriers, and trucks. In this role I faced many challenges that I am able to help people with today, such as waiting for parts, not having the correct tooling, and unhelpful work instructions. This frustration gave me the passion to help others improve what they do. I’ve since become a Business Improvement Consultant and have had experience working across many sectors, including Defence, Charity, Financial Services, Aerospace and Automotive.?

Beyond my professional life, I have an 11 month old baby boy, a horse and 2 dogs. Despite a busy schedule, I have a passion for cycling and manage to squeeze in around 100 miles a week on one of my bikes.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’m currently collaborating with Aston Martin to support some of their suppliers for the prestigious Valkyrie hypercar program. The primary goal is to help these suppliers meet the heightened production rate demands efficiently and effectively.

One of my proudest achievements during this project has been elevating one of the suppliers from producing approximately 200 hours of output per week to an impressive 500 hours. This significant increase not only facilitates the Hypercar build rate but also leads to a remarkable surge in the supplier's turnover – a win-win for everyone involved.

Within the network, I am currently working with Jon Hill and Craig Wright on the development of a manufacturing improvement system within HiveStudio, to enable a 7x return on investment on improvement activity for clients.

What is your favourite aspect of HiveMind?

My favourite aspect of HiveMind is the incredible energy it brings and the open forum for learning, development, and growth without judgement.?

It’s great to be connected with people from very different walks of life, sharing diverse and challenging viewpoints within a supportive environment.

How has HiveMind helped you develop your professional career?

Having a network of support has been invaluable for developing my ways of working. I have built great connections with the people I've met within the network that will endure in both my career and personal life.

Which HiveMind value do you most align with and why?

I align most with the HiveMind value of “Challenge conventional thinking.”?

Embracing this value, I believe that if we always do what we have always done, we will always be what we always were. It’s easy to get ‘stuck in our ways’ and not be able to see the paradigm we have put ourselves in.

Challenging what is currently happening is a key tool in my Business Improvement box, and always opens people’s eyes and motivates them to think differently.

What are your future goals within the network?

My future goals are to take my operational improvement business from the exciting test phase to scale. I look forward to building relationships that challenge my thinking and mentoring individuals that are keen to develop. HiveMind Network will provide me with inspiration, intellectual challenge and expert resources to do that.?
