Finding a Niche

No alt text provided for this image

You want to start a business, but the thing that's holding you back is the market niche you know you need to choose. And, honestly, this can be tricky: You could list all of your interests and passions and still come away feeling as if you haven't hit upon the singular thing you were meant to do.

Yet putting that kind of pressure on yourself to choose the exact right niche may cause paralysis.

Certainly, you want to do your due diligence in selecting a viable niche, but it's better to get up and running than to wait around. That way, you can test out ideas, enter the market sooner and learn from your successes and failures. That way, too, if your first business doesn't take off, you can always take what you've learned from previous attempts and move forward with new ideas.

1. Identify your interests and passions.

This may be something you've already done. But, if you haven't, make a list of 10 topical interests and passion areas, immediately.

Business isn't easy, and at some point, it will test you. If you are working in an area that you don't care about, your odds of quitting will greatly increase -- especially as a first-time business owner.

Here are a few prompts to help you determine what your interests and passions are:

  • How do you like to spend your free time? What do you look forward to doing when you aren't doing it?
  • What magazines do you subscribe to? What topics do you like to learn about most?
  • What clubs or organizations do you belong to?

2. Identify problems you can solve.

With your list of 10 topics in hand, you're ready to start narrowing down your options. To create a profitable business, you first need to find problems your target customers are experiencing, then determine whether you can actually solve them. Here are several things you can do to identify problems in specific niches:

  • Have one-on-one conversations or idea-extraction sessions with your target market. Make sure to find or create a framework for asking questions that helps you uncover pain points.
  • Peruse forums. Search or find forums related to your niche, then take a look at the discussions that are taking place. What questions are people asking? What problems do they have?

3. Research your competition.

The presence of competition isn't necessarily a bad thing. It may actually be showing you that you've found a profitable niche. But you do need to do a thorough analysis of competing sites. Create a new spreadsheet and start logging all of the competing sites you can find.

Then figure out whether there's still an opportunity to stand out in the crowd. Can you still rank for your keywords? Is there a way to differentiate yourself and create a unique offer? Here are several signs that you can enter a niche and be successful, even if there are already other sites serving it:

 Finding Your Drop Shipper

Supplier Quality - Always Buy From AliExpress Drop Shipping Suppliers Which Have + Positive Feedback

What makes a great dropshipping supplier?

Not all dropshippers are great at what they do. However, there are a few keys to finding the diamonds in the rough. Before we discuss how to find your drop shipper, let’s take a look at what a great supplier looks like.

Generally speaking, dropshipping suppliers aren’t known for their ability to market themselves to their audience, so finding the right dropship suppliers can be a difficult task.

You need to know in advance that finding dropshipping suppliers for your business could take a while. Another thing that you should take into consideration during your search is that you’re selecting suppliers which are likely based in Asia – the language barrier could take a little getting used to.

Nevertheless, you can find the right dropshipping supplier for your business. Here are a few steps that you can take to ensure that you find the right one:

1. Experienced and helpful sales reps

One thing I personally look for in a dropshipping supplier is an awesome sales rep. I want to know that I can call them and get my questions answered as fully as possible and that they’ll know how to handle any issues I have.

Don’t get me wrong; no one is perfect and there will be questions they can’t answer right away. But they should be willing to find the answers for you and get back to you in a timely manner.

2. No huge per-order fees

Most dropshippers charge a “per-order” fee. This is a fee you have to pay every time you place an order with them. It makes sense because they have to take the extra time and resources to pack and ship your order for you.

However, sometimes wholesalers take advantage of this and charge outrageous fees. They could range anywhere from $2 to $10. Whether or not this highly depends on the profit margins you’re making on your products.

My advice is to do the math and see whether you can still make a good profit when dealing with a high fee. If not, keep looking.

3. Fast shipping (keeps customers happy)

If your supplier takes more than 24 hours to ship an item (48 at most), then they will not be a good fit for you. Dropshipping is an overly competitive market—there is no room for a lengthy shipping process. The competition will beat you if yours is too long.

On the flip side, if you can find suppliers who ship very quickly, you’ll gain a competitive edge. To find the best dropshipping companies, I recommend placing a test order before you make your final choice.

4. Quality product (lower returns)

As we talked about earlier in the section on finding a product to dropship, finding the best dropshippers means finding the drop shippers selling the best products.

Selling a high-quality product means:

  • Higher customer satisfaction
  • More word-of-mouth referrals
  • Fewer returns
  • Better product reviews

I can’t even think of any downside to selling a quality product, other than perhaps lower margins. However, the benefits above will mean more profit for your business over time than you would ever get from selling the high-margin but low-quality product.

5. Invested in technology

The latest tech in automation, efficiency, and scalability are going to be increasingly important to you as your dropshipping business grows. While not important right out of the gates, you’ll want to try picking suppliers with the endgame in mind.

Some signs that a dropshipper is invested in technology include:

  • A detailed website with full product descriptions
  • The options to place and cancel orders on their website and via email

Of course, not all dropshipping companies are going to have these advanced features. Don’t count one out just because they don’t have a beautiful website—just keep these things in mind during your search.

6. Brand-name products I talked about how selling brand-name products is probably a bad idea. This is true for beginners.

However, as you advance as a dropshipping business owner, this may be a category you want to tackle. If you think you’ll eventually want to sell name-brand products, this is a factor to consider when choosing a supplier.

 7-Dropshipping Suppliers to Avoid

  1. It is hard to know which dropship suppliers to choose but there are some tell-tale signs that a supplier is to be avoided at all costs. Apart from bad reviews, negative feedback, and cheap quantity products, there are other factors that can anticipate a bad dropshipping supplier.
  • If a dropship supplier insists on monthly or ongoing fees to do business with them this is a bad sign. Ongoing fees could mean a supplier is part of a directory as opposed to a single supplier.
  • It is normal to have pre-order fees that increase slightly depending on the size or complexity of an order or decrease with bulk ordering. The research will highlight suppliers that charge higher than normal pre-order fees, which you want to stay away from.
  • Minimum order size is another thing to keep in mind when choosing a dropship supplier. Most of the time a supplier is willing to charge the minimum order fee and fulfill orders as they come in. This means that if a supplier’s minimum order size is 200, you must pay for the 200 units upfront but the supplier will fulfill the orders as they come from your online store. Suppliers that refuse to do this should be avoided as they are more suited for dropshipping wholesale.

Importance of Dropshipping Suppliers

Dropshipping suppliers are integral to every dropshipping business. Without suppliers, dropshipping businesses cannot sustain themselves, as they won’t have any products to deliver to their customers. That’s why it’s essential that you know how to find dropshipping suppliers that will help your business to succeed without any hitches. Let’s dive in to our top tips for finding dropshipping suppliers with Oberlo.

How much is Shopify? Aside from its easy-to-use interface, Shopify is highly popular because of the low startup cost associated with it. But, how much will you shell out to sell on Shopify? Shopify pricing ranges from $9/month to $299/month for its regular plans. The good thing is there are no contacts for you to sign or any other transaction fees, except for paying on an external payment gateway. If you commit to paying an upfront one-year or two-year plan, you can save 10% or 20%, respectively.

Add products

Now that you’ve got a sleek and good looking Shopify store, it’s time to focus on what really matters on how to sell on Shopify: your products. You can’t be an online store with anything to sell. This step is probably the most time-consuming portion but it really requires your full, undivided attention. Your products are what will generate your revenue. Without a highly curated product selection, your potential customers won’t convert.

Import products by CSV file: If you have a huge inventory, bulk upload products by importing CSV file is a better alternative to manual uploads. Here is Shopify’s official guide on importing products with a CSV file.

You’re now ready to promote your Shopify store and get your first customers lined up. Our last step on how to sell on Shopify is marketing and optimization techniques. Marketing will help you drive a steady flow of traffic into your site, but you also need to make sure that you continue to optimize your site to increase your conversion. If you are unsure about how you can get people to start talking about your store and optimize it, here are some best practices that we’d love you to try: Build your email list: Even with the explosion of new digital media, email marketing is still one of the most vital channels for online stores. Strategically place an email subscription form on your website to capture visitors. Once captured, you can nurture them into paying customers. Advertise on social media: If you are serious about growing your Shopify store, then investing in paid ads is inevitable. Two of the most go-to social media platforms by savvy marketers are Instagram and Facebook. Here’s a guide on how to advertise on Facebook or advertise on Instagram. Improve your product page: It’s not enough that you get people to visit your site, your ultimate goal is to get them to buy. Make sure that you optimize the product page so that your visitors will be compelled to convert as soon as possible.

you build Facebook Ad campaigns in three levels:

? Campaign Level:

This is your highest level, you can have multiple Ad Sets per Campaign, and each Ad Set can have multiple Ads!

? Ad Set:

This is where the MAGIC happens, you can create DETAILED TARGETING here to only show your ad to the people most likely to buy your product or service!

? Ad:

This is what the customer actually sees, this is where you write your ad copy and choose your images or videos to actually show new potential customers

2-How to Structure Your Google Adwords Accounts

Account Level

At the account level, you will set up business information and billing. If you have more than one location that requires separate billing, you will want to set up 2 separate accounts. If these accounts will be very similar, you can build one to completion and then use Adwords Editor to copy the campaign to the other account. Campaign Level Most smaller/local businesses will not require a large number of campaigns. But the more services or products you offer the more campaigns you will need. Here are the things that you need separate campaigns for:

1. Different location targeting

2. Different service offerings (Landscaper who does design and construction would need a design campaign and a construction campaign.)

3. Different ad scheduling

4. Any campaigns that are different campaign types. ( Search, Display, Remarketing, Call-Only, Video)
