How Routine Freed My Quarantine

Flying back to Perth from Istanbul whilst my family headed the other way to Malaysia mid Covid-19 crisis was an experience I will not forget.
It was a gruelling journey, not understanding how our Invisible enemy operates and having no control about my family's safety. What times we live in and It is an unique position we find ourselves in, although history has taught us a few similar moments ie The Bubonic Plague of 1347 that brought the Byzantine Empire to a regression or the Spanish Flu of 1919 that caused a global recession.
Hell, SARS & MERS being part of the Corona family were events that we learnt the effects of not having a herd community within nations when required - collective thinking - and solid infrastructure to back our population ie 10% of every nation's citizens backed with the right medical & technological advances to support them. In 2015, Bill Gates spoke of a potential virus that could wipe us out and how severely unprepared we are :
So the question remains, as we prepare our economy for a potential reopening with limitations on travel, entertainment & way of life in general - what is the best way for us common folk to prepare for what's next?
The answer, I found through hours of pondering in my 14 day mandatory quarantine - was simple. Routine.
This photo encapsulates my days in quarantine with the following :
- Swiss Army Watch to remind me of #31mins on all non negotiable tasks.
- Stephen King's The Institute, a gift from a dear friend - 1 chapter of horror a day keeps the world's insanity away.
- 12kg Kettebells. Trust me, this tool has been highly impressive, working my mobility + strength with hardcore repetition.
- Black Ibanez Pick. My rustic black semi accoustic has been a trusty companion for many years, now I pay its due respect.
- An Old Fashioned sip every other night...stop judging me goddammit its a pandemic out there
- The one that's mightier than a sword - journal like there's no tomorrow - pun intended.
So as we brace for months to come & prepare for a new normal, no matter what your life circumstances may be - create & flow with your own routine. What's yours?
Share it with us, stay safe & until the next time - Rock On my fellow Perthians!!
Love from isolation,
