How to Rise Through Setbacks (My Personal Struggles & Journey)
Lately I’ve been having a lot of conversations where ONE theme has come up
And that theme is… there are a lot of people going through hard times right now
Whether it’s the lockdowns
Whether it’s life
A lot of people are going through a tough time right now and facing serious ruts in life
I faced a major rut 8 weeks ago when I got SUPER sick for 2 weeks and couldn’t work (or do anything for that matter)
Lost 13 lbs of muscle
Saw a massive dip in my finances
Became codependent in my relationships because I let myself get taken off my center and ungrounded from my purpose & path
And sometimes these ruts take time to turn around
I’ve got the muscle back
But business still doesn’t quite have the same momentum it did 8 weeks ago
And I’m still finding my center and doing the inner work to get myself grounded on my path again
And that’s ok
See
On social media everybody is highlighting their wins
But it can be discouraging if you’re going through a rough season and it looks like everybody else is crushing it
Even looking at me it may seem like I’ve got it all figured out (trust me, I don’t)
Don’t worry - the struggles you’re going through are normal
And more people are in the exact same place than you think
What I want you to remember is that these tough times and season you’re going through right now are exactly that
A SEASON
This too shall pass
The rest of your life isn’t ruined
As long as you don’t let it be
But yes - you may have a few weeks or months that suck
The darkness will either make you bitter or better and this is a reminder for me as well
So how does one leverage this opportunity to grow?
Instead of seeing this setback as something that crushes you?
Let’s dive in:
Step 1 - When you catch yourself feeling sorry for yourself - REFRAME
I first heard about the art of the reframe when I was 22 and read Earl Nightingale
He has something called the ‘that’s good’ principle
Where when something ‘bad’ happens we say ‘that’s good’
Which trains our brain to find the good in every situation
Lose 13 lbs of muscle?
That’s good
It gives me the opportunity to double down and document the process and use it as a marketing piece
Business and relationships take a nosedive?
That’s good
It gives me the opportunity to do the inner work I’ve been neglecting and build a more solid foundation
And will force me to stay consistent with it (Meditation, journaling, finding myself and my own validation, overcoming my people pleaser tendencies, etc.)
Step 2 - Plan the action steps to get you where you want to be
Once you put yourself into a positive state, it’s just a matter of taking action
The right actions of course
That get you to your goal
So first we need to get clear on where we want to be
I want to be 205-210 lbs and 8-10% bodyfat
Make 30-100k/mo
Be secure, abundant, and generous in my relationships, & being myself instead of seeking others’ approval
What actions steps must I take to get to where I want to be?
Train and hike 4 days per week
Clean up my diet
Keep cranking the course, ad spend, ad variations, content across all platforms, and sales, publish 5 pieces of content per week
Meditate and journal daily
Go out and be social every day, spending time with those important to me
And then all I need to do is create a lifestyle out of that, and truly enjoy the process
And soon, I’ll be out of the rut
I know this can be difficult to get clear on on your own
And difficult to stay consistent with initially as well
