How The Right Attorney Will Make Sure You Are Heard and Your Story Is Told
Your Right to Be Heard is a Fundamental Part of Your Humanity Don't Let Anyone Take That Away From You, But if You Have, Chose the Right Attorney to Give You and Your Story Voice
As a Family Law Attorney, I have come to realize that one of the most important jobs I have, perhaps Job No. 1, is making sure that the Court actually hears my client. Not just that the Court hears from my client, but that the Court actually hears my client, hears who they are, hears their own story, hears it in their own voice and in their own words (though as assisted by me).
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO THEIR STORY. NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TAKE YOUR STORY FROM YOU. Despite this, when clients come to see me after they’ve been represented by other counsel, one of the most common complaints I hear is:
“The Judge seems to only hear my ex-(husband or wife)’s story and they always believe them! They just don’t seem to hear me, and my attorney doesn’t seem able to do anything about it.”
A fundamental component of what is means to be human is our ability and our right to speak, and to tell our own stories to each other. Unfortunately, many involved with the Legal System, and in particular, the Family Court System, feel that their right to speak, and their right to tell their own story, and their right to be heard in a court of law has been taken away, or more appropriately, stolen from them. When a prospective new client tells me that they feel like they haven’t been heard, I assure them, without passing judgment on prior counsel, that I will make sure that they will be heard and their story will be told , truthfully, honestly and framed in a manner which will help to ensure that their case is resolved in a fair, just and equitable manner. That’s all 99.9% of my client’s are looking for, and it is something I am committed to making sure they receive from the Legal System, and in particular, the Family Court System. (The other .01% may express a desire to “screw over”, “take to the cleaners”, or “crush” their soon to be ex spouse. I must respectfully inform these potential clients that I am not the right attorney for them.).
HAS SOMEONE, PERHAPS YOUR EX-HUSBAND OR WIFE AND THEIR ATTORNEY, SILENCED YOUR VOICE AND TAKEN YOUR OWN STORY AWAY FROM YOU? Then it is time for you to visit a Family Law attorney who understands that a keen knowledge of the law will accomplish nothing until he gives voice to those the Family Court System has silenced, and who possesses the skill, expertise, knowledge and determination to make sure that your story is told, that you are listened to, and that you are heard.
DON’T WAIT ANY LONGER TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION, BECAUSE THE LONGER YOU WAIT, THE LONGER SOMEONE ELSE’S VERSION OF YOUR STORY WILL BE HEARD, AND NOT JUST HEARD, BUT ALSO BELIEVED.
The longer you wait to tell your story in the Family Court System, especially if someone else has been telling their version of your story for you, the more likely it becomes that you will be seen as reactionary, will not be heard, will not be believed, and will be rewarded accordingly. Though competent counsel can help you play catch up, even with solid counsel it becomes harder and harder to have your story actually listed to, and acted on accordingly, the longer you wait to tell it or have it told. The moral of this story is speak now, or have someone else speak for you, especially where the allegations against you are fierce because your failure to speak in a timely manner may well be taken as an admission on your part against you as to the truth of someone else's story about you.
THE SOONER YOU ACT, THE SOONER THE RIGHT FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE LISTENED TO, YOUR STORY IS TOLD AND YOU ARE HEARD.
The sooner you act, the sooner the right Family Law Attorney will be able to make sure that you are heard, that your story is listened to, and you receive the justice you deserve. Your story cannot be told without the right story teller, scribe and poet to help you. Your future, your children's future and your finances are worth taking the effort to make sure that you are heard from and believed now, not later.
