How to review your social media (A simple system!!)

Hello,

And welcome to the 19th Edition of Social for Growth.?

This month has very much been about onboarding new clients and running several social media Clarity Sessions to ensure my clients are crystal clear on their messaging for 2024 and, most importantly, have the confidence to implement it.

I was also lucky enough to be joined by Debbie Crompton and Stephanie (Steph) Bonnie (the nerds you need??) from Stebbington Ltd live here on LinkedIn to break down some of the jargon around email marketing and provide you with some tips and inspiration to help you get started.

You can watch the replay here:

As an aside, I am just about ready for a Christmas break, and I hope you are too! And I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and an awesome 2024.

But before you settle down with your bucket of miniature heroes?? and your bottle of fizz.???

How to conduct a social media review...

I wanted to walk you through how you can conduct a social media review (so you can actually understand what's working and begin to plan for 2024.

I totally understand you might not want to do this now, but you can save this or print it off (if you like) and return it with fresh eyes in January.

Why review:

Regularly reviewing your social media activity will help you to:

?? Understand your customers and what they need from you.

?? Understand what's working so you can ditch the stuff that isn't.

?? Set realistic goals.

?? Know whether your efforts are supporting your business growth.

?? Stay focused and motivated.

There can be a lot of variables to look for, so make sure your review links to your business and marketing goals.

How do I review?

Firstly, pick one or two goals to focus on. I am going to choose brand awareness as an example. Why? because it's the broadest and one of the ones that most of us consistently need to measure.

If you haven't done a review for a while, you will need to do a topline assessment. So, take a good look at your overall accounts and bios (what you can include changes all the time, so it's good to check them regularly).

?You will need to make a note of the following things:

? Are the headers and tag lines all up to date?

? Are there any new features that you could utilise?

? Are the images recent?

? Does it contain a hook to draw people in?

? Do they reflect what you do now and what you are trying to achieve?

Do you have the right followers and connections?

Dig a little deeper and look at your followers and connections. Are you:

?? Following the people and companies you want to work with, support and/ or collaborate with.

?? Are you followed by or connected with potential clients, suppliers and collaborators?

? Following hashtags and/ or topics that are relevant to your business?

? Are you regularly producing content that your audience wants to see?

? Are you engaging with other relevant people and responding to comments on your posts and content?

How well is your content doing?

Now you will need to delve into the individual platforms and assess how well your content is performing. So, pick a time period to focus on. A month is s good benchmark if you are sharing at least 3 posts per week (any less than you will need to look at the last quarter to give you enough data to work with).

?? Post reach and impressions

??Growth in connections/ followers

?? Engagements: Likes, comments, shares, saves

?? Accounts and profile visits?

?? Website visits.?

We also want to determine what our best and worst-performing posts are based on our goal. Remember in this example that we are measuring brand awareness, so our primary concern would be:

- Reach: The number of people who saw your post.

- Impressions/ Post views: The number of times your post was seen.

Ideally, you want your reach/ post views to be higher than impressions. This indicates that people have referred back to your post or that it has a good level of interaction, so has appeared more times in someone's newsfeed.

Note down these for your 3 best and worst-performing posts and screenshot them with the data alongside for easy reference.

You will also need to make a note of the following:

?? Dates and times the post was shared.

?? Engagements on the post: Likes, comments, shares and saves.

?? Website/ link clicks.

You will probably notice a common trend between those who performed well and those who didn't perform as well. This may not even be down to the quality of your content. It may be down to timings, format, or not having a clear call to action that tells your audience the action they need to take.?

If you do this regularly, you will see a pattern emerge over time that helps you stay on top of your social media and on track with your goals.
