How to reverse prediabetes and why we are not able to do it.

How to reverse prediabetes and why we are not able to do it.

You need only 3 things to reverse Prediabetes and prevent Diabetes

  1. Exercise: Minimum 150 min/ week of moderate-intensity exercise. Spread over multiple days is better. One bout of exercise should be at least 10 minutes
  2. Eat healthily: Eating in a calorie deficit with a greater focus on whole foods, healthy fats and protein. Consider limiting fats to 25-30% of overall calorie intake (unless following a Keto diet where you need to eat low-carb and high-fat to get into ketosis)
  3. Manage Stress: If you are stressed, your blood sugar will shoot up, you will not have the energy to exercise, and you will also crave junk food. The easiest way to stress yourself is to miss sleep, so please make time to get your nightly rest. This is the most underestimated aspect of diabetes prevention.?

But I am sure you already know all of this. There’s nothing new. Scientists, Nutritionists, your Doctor and everyone else on social media and television have been blaring out these messages for as long as one can remember.

Knowing that you need to eat well, exercise, sleep and manage stress has not even made a tiny dent in our behaviour. Diabetes continues to rise rapidly in India, as does obesity. We have more pre-diabetics than diabetics, and yet hardly a handful are able to successfully change their lifestyles.

Why?

Because increasing awareness only helps some people change their behaviour, not all. Some people armed with knowledge will quickly get on the path of transformation and even succeed. But the rest will sit with that knowledge and not change anything. They know, but they don’t act.

And this is perfectly NORMAL. It is not a failure on anyone’s part.

Because different people respond to different interventions, there's no one size fits all. Some people respond well to increased awareness, others do better with restriction, some others get the most success when they work in groups rather than by self-monitoring, yet others only get results when they meticulously track progress. And there will also be a group that absolutely hates to track and measure.

The worst thing you can do is force yourself to be in a group in which you don’t inherently belong.

Instead, experiment and explore. It can take a little bit of trial and error till you find something that WORKS for you. Do not give up or get demotivated because there is a system out there that will give you the results you want.?

If you tried a diet or exercise routine in the past and it didn’t work out, that’s perfectly fine. Try something else, just don't give up altogether. There's no one perfect diet or one perfect exercise for everyone in the world- the best diet, exercise, morning routine, or sleep schedule is the one that helps you thrive. And there's no one more qualified than you to identify that.
