How Researching For My Course Led To A Powerful Headline Writing System

I was seven hours into my workday when a random note I took at 11:57 pm grew into what I now call a 5-level action-oriented headline system. At least, that’s what I’m calling it.
Normally, I’m in bed by 10:30, but that night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept flipping through page after page of Nicolas Cole’s book, The Art and Business of Online Writing. I was skimming, hoping to find some ideas to streamline my blog writing process. Then, something just clicked for me. The book showed examples of high-quality titles that got Cole millions of views. He explained why they got so many views and how he structured his headlines.
This got me thinking about the purpose of our blog titles and what actions a writer should expect their audience to take after reading an article.
For most, it’s simply to read and follow them. Others ask readers to join their newsletter, and some writers promote products—either their own or affiliated products. It’s that simple:
With these three simple options in mind, I realized the title draws people in with the intention of prompting some sort of action. The title is crucial in attracting an audience by telling them, “This article is or isn’t for you.”

If I want my readers to take action, like joining my newsletter linked below, I need to write headlines that attract readers with an action-oriented mindset—someone looking for solutions to problems I solve.
