How to Report the Death of a LinkedIn Member

This is important stuff. Please share.
I'll admit - there are more pleasant subjects. And I'll also admit, that after someone we know passes, there may be a certain degree of comfort to be had when that person's profile pops up in a search or in one's contact list or group - FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.
But when is it time to report a person's passing to LinkedIn to have an unattended profile removed? Unfortunately there are no clear rules. After 6 months or so, I start feeling pangs of regret that no relative or connection cared enough for this poor person - or knew how - to report his or her death to LinkedIn. To me it's almost like that profile is wandering around in some form of electronic purgatory, and I feel it's respectful to ask to have that profile set free.
Reporting a death to LinkedIn is simple.
Here's the link to report a person's passing to LinkedIn (<< Click on it)
It will ask you to copy and paste the following:
- The member's name
- The URL to their LinkedIn profile
- Your relationship to them
- Member's email address
- Date they passed away
- Link to obituary
In addition, there's a box for any additional comments and a place for an attachment.
I reported two connections' passing from a year ago this morning and found the whole process humane and respectful - I felt like I was paying MY final respects. I was also pleased that LinkedIn's auto responder has a nice condolence reply and a link for you to follow up on the case you just created.
Well done, LinkedIn.
Now give me my radius search back. #linkedin #linkeintraining

3 年According to this: https://www.dhirubhai.net/help/linkedin/answer/2842/deceased-linkedin-member?lang=en now "If you have the authority to act on behalf of a deceased member, you can?request to memorialize or close the account", but it is still possible for anyone to report the person as deceased, which will result in the account being hidden. It still seems unfair, because if the person who has the authority to act on behalf of a deceased member doesn't act fast enough, there is the risk someone else will report the person's death, making the account hidden, and making it more complicated to memorialize if the person with the authority to do so doesn't have the URL. When someone reports someone else's death, LinkedIn shouldn't hide the profile, but only stop sending notifications about it (e.g., work anniversaries).

3 年George Wood passed over three years ago and we still get requests to celebrate his work anniversary -- what earthly sense does that make? And I don't know who to contact to fix this.

3 年I received a notification to congratulate a coworker on her years of service, but she passed away last November. I agree that there should be a kind and respectful way to memorialize an individual who has passed without deleting them altogether. I will try to complete all of the steps to inform LinkedIn.
