How to reflect effectively

How to reflect effectively

Reflection is defined as?"serious thought" or "consideration".?

To think deeply or carefully about something.

There is great value in reflection, or as?Soren Kierkegaard explained:

"Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards."

How do you reflect?

Where do you start, what do you do, what do you ask, on what do you focus, and how do you avoid?rabbit holes?

Meet CARL.

CARL can help.

CARL is a framework of reflection.

Context, Action, Results,?and?Learning.

Every time you reflect on something, write down the:

  • Context:?Brief description of the context
  • Action:?Explain what actions were taken
  • Results:?Elaborate on?what happened as a result of your actions
  • Learning:?Identity what?you've?learned

Potential questions for CONTEXT could be:

  • Where was it?
  • Who was involved?
  • What is the backstory?

Potential questions for ACTION could be:

  • What did I do?
  • Why did I choose this action?
  • Were there other actions from other people?

Potential questions for RESULTS could be:

  • Was the desired outcome achieved?
  • Could the same results have?been achieved with different actions?
  • Is there a way to improve the?results, or the?actions that led to the?results?

Potential questions for LEARNING could be:

  • What did I learn from this specifically?
  • If I could go back, would I change anything or do it the same way?
  • When faced with a similar situation in the future, what should I do?

This is not a comprehensive list of questions; feel free to expand or just?keep it simple.

Don't leave CARL hanging.?

I hope it?equips you and your team to reflect, better.
