How to reduce stress at work, and in life
Hey, in case you are new to me, I am an author of a book on finding inner happiness https://bit.ly/AmarHIYS and a stand-up comedian https://bit.ly/2KCecQg
I have been working independently for the last few years and in this article, let me try and humor you and help you reduce stress, my way.
Please do the below.
- Feel grateful
Wherever you work, you may have a washroom, which may have a mirror. Go in front of the mirror and say, 'with this face, you have come this far. What did you expect?'
Jokes besides, feel grateful for what you have.
There will always be scope in life to improve and get better, till the last day, but if you aren't grateful for what life has given you, it's tough to be in a mind space to make things better.
2. Stress is thinking turned negative
Try and understand the difference between thinking and stress. All of thinking is not stress. If you are thinking deeply about how to get that hot girl in the office on a date, it is not stress.
Stress is putting negative tags on everything about your life.
My job sucks.
My boss sucks.
My this sucks. My that sucks.
Everything that you are facing is a problem to solve. There are problems we can't solve, like people dying because of last stage cancer. So, we can only feel sad about them, and empathize. But a problem by definition is something that you can solve. So, try and solve it, but don't place negative tags which will stress your mind.
If that girl goes out with your colleague though, that's some sort of stress, but accept it, and find someone else. You deserve better, no? :)
3. Your boss is your best bet to solve work related stress
Let's face it. Human resource can't solve work-stress problems. You don't work with them on an everyday basis. You work with a boss, who decides the course of your days. So, try and form a healthy relationship with this person.
If your relationship with your boss is a mess, it WILL BE a source of everyday stress. Make friends with your boss, if you can. He/she is also trying to do a job. Some of these guys are nice people.
I repeat- discuss whatever you face with your boss, before it comes to discuss with the HR.
4. Be cheerful around
If you like your job and you like your boss, there is possibility that you will not be a grunt around the office, and people would want to spend time with you.
Be cheerful. Try and carry positive emotions to work. If you do, people will want to work with you.
Think of it-who doesn't like cheerful people?
5. You will die soon
Listen, let's get this straight. Be aware of your mortality, even when you are in office. Life is short. Make the best of your experience, and don't waste time on negativity and negative people.
Choose your friends carefully, who cheer you up.
6. Immerse in your work
Work is a blessing.
I repeat, work is a blessing. Find work that you enjoy and you won't need to waste time on office politics. Everyone is running against the competition. You run against yourself. Set your own standards, and beat them.
Work hard, and if you are fortunate to do what you enjoy, you will find this easy. Works stress wouldn't affect you easily.
7. Exercise and meditate
The older I grow, and I am 38 now, the more I believe in the power of exercise and meditation. The mind is in the body and the body is in the mind. You keep one healthy and the other is healthy, and vice versa.
Create dopamine and other chemicals which make you feel good.
As I mention in my book, and I say all the time, we need to create our own happiness, every day.
Let go of stress, and feel great about the blessing that life is, while working on yourself, and things you are up to.
